They will check every claim eventually, either immediately or at a later date (particually around renewal times). If you lie then the chances of getting caught are very high.

It's dishonest and fraudulent so I do hope anyone doing it gets caught!

They also check that the childminder is registered, if there is more than one family at one childminder they are going to know if someone claims different costs for the same amount of time.

I recently had my Tax Credits claim checked and they wanted my nursery contract and a statement from the nursery showing what i was paying - they also asked for my bank statements which confirmed what I was paying....so they do check

there's no way i'd risk lying about what I was paying, why would i want to risk a criminal record and a massive overpayment for a few quid extra a week...?

Me too - i had my claim checked last yer - it was a nightmare, they wanted copies of absolutely everything, nursery contracts, receipts, payslips, bank statements, rent agreement, and a letter from god!!!

Glad it hadn't happened to only me - i was getting paranoid.

They had a way of making me feel guilty even though my claim was completely legal & above board!! :rotfl:

Wow, been on hol and just check the post. It's mad what some people do for a couple of quid lol!!!! God help if they check mine, dont think i even have a contract - unless its at the bottom of the drawer we all have lol!!!!!!

while we're on the subject, how does it work with the tax credits once child care drops when my DS turns 3? Because don't you only get the free hours during term time?

Mine are both at school - one doing breakfast club. The tax credits work out how much the childcare is (term time only), and work out the amount and pay it over the year - if that makes any sense!!
