Child Care - Do They Check?

Options
as i was filing in my renewal form today, the bit about childcare, my OH made a valid point. He said "how do they know what we pay in childcare?"

i.e. do people claim more than what they actually pay for?

I've always been totally honest but it made me think do they actually ring each and every child care provider in the country?

sorry, not terribly important, just made me wonder!

I am a registered childminder and have had four families over last couple of years who have claimed. Only one family has been checked out directly with me.

    Interesting this one.....
My next door neighbour has 3 kids.
1 is at full time school and the other 2 will soon be going to a childminder 5 days a week as she wants to return to work.
From what i can gather she has told the Tax Credit people that she will be paying the childminder more money per week than she really wiil be and will pocket the difference.
She has said the childminder has said it is ok for her to do this as well.
Surely the childminder will be checked up on and have to pay tax on the full amount.
If she is doing this then god knows how many others are doing it around the country.

I recently had my Tax Credits claim checked and they wanted my nursery contract and a statement from the nursery showing what i was paying - they also asked for my bank statements which confirmed what I was paying....so they do check

there's no way i'd risk lying about what I was paying, why would i want to risk a criminal record and a massive overpayment for a few quid extra a week...?

I know those who work for Tax credits say they check but I have a friend who childminds and has been doing so for 2 years, she has had 3 families so far and never been checked.

Neither has another childminding friend and shes been doing it for nearly 5 years and has countless families .......

Surely cant just be those two?
  • i have had numerous child care providers and as far i know they have only checked with one, but why would anyone want to lie about the costs, its people who take advantage that spoil things for everyone, we all struggle which is why we are on the tax credits to start so no one should be greedy
