Problems with Vodafone phone

Hi - although I've lurked a while, I just registered today and my first post is about a problem  Sorry!

A friend has a mobile phone through Vodafone, and it stopped charging a couple of months ago. He took it into one of their shops (with a repair/fault booth) and they gave him a replacement power charger, suggesting that might be the culprit. All was well, and then last week it stopped charging again. Essentially the phone is not useable - completely dead and won't charge.

His 18 month contract expired in January - he's on the tariff he's been on since he had the phone/contract. He's also been paying monthly phone insurance through Vodafone (has been since the start of the contract).

The shop has told him that the phone (Vodafone V800)is no longer produced, and they don't carry spares, so they aren't able to send it off to be repaired. They called the insurance arm and they said that he couldn't claim on the insurance because Vodafone won't be able to repair it - and as it's not lost/stolen there's nothing they can do.

They kindly ( ) offered him an upgrade but he'd have to have another contract - and he doesn't want to be tied into a contract with them - particularly after 18 months.

So there we have it. He's still paying insurance, he's still paying his tariff but he doesn't have a working phone and Vodafone won't replace it or have it mended.

Surely this can't be right can it? Any advice from the experts here?

Cheers

if you mean the sony ericsson v800i, providing you still have the receipt you should be able to send it back to sony ericsson for repair under warranty as most SE handsets have a 2 yr warranty now
  • Yes, that's right - it's the SE V800i.

I'm well annoyed with Vodafone
