HAMISH yah i read it and actually attended a lecture on it. Still from it i took away that the 'credit crunch' was caused by mortgages being given to people who were too risky.
These mortgages were the trigger point that caused the credit crunch. You pretty much said it in your post?
Not UK mortgages.
Uk mortgage lending had nothing to do with it.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

So nothing to do with the fact that the economy was based on people spending mroe than they earned by cashing in on HPI they did nothing to earn... then the taps got turned off and the free money stopped...
Correct.
Nothing to do with that.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Didn't say the UK economy

But your right i'm guessing the main reason for the credit crunch within the UK was the miss selling of the AAA rated investments by the Americans.0 -
Mr Osborne might say that is inevitable if the government is to continue raising the same amount from fuel taxes as cars become more efficient.IveSeenTheLight wrote: »Are you saying that because technology has made something more efficient that you should pass on said savings to the government?
It's the inevitability of death and taxes as Benjamin Franklin pointed out. Block up your windows to save on window taxes and the money will just have to come from somewhere else.0 -

Yep.
Hence why UK banks lost £15 on overseas mortgages for every £1 they lost on UK ones.
They wouldn't have needed any bailouts to cover UK mortgage losses at all.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

... buy a new car which is more efficient and pay for it with the money you save on petrol?
What if you are still driving the 1973 (well maintained I suspect) because you cannot afford to buy a new car?
What if instead of buying a new car you are trying to save for a deposit?
Are you saying that FTBers should forgo the opportunity to become homeowners as they should buy a new car?

Could make the government billions.
Legalise cannabis. Those that do it will find ways to get it anyway. So might as well legalise it and add a tax to it. Would help out the economy and save a fortune in Police costs

Interestingly I was reading about black death the other day and that did get rid of about 40% of the worlds population, but it actually caused more proplem with repopulation as many more young males than females where killed.
I like the sound of those odds so I'm willing to take my chances...0
