    Fantastic!! Best of luck to your children and grandchildren. With family spouting views like that they're going to need it.

    One of the reasons why I have invested in property is to hedge against HPI for my children and possibly will do so for my grand children should I ever be blessed.

    I am a realist and can see the fundamentals affecting property prices and the understanding the property ownership is not a right, but a privaledge / luxury.

    Interesting concept. Utopian I suspect.
    I wonder if you could point to a Utopian society that we can take lessons from?

    Anyhow, How would you feel about paying stamp duty every time you move?
    What about contractors that may need to move every 6 months?

    My son is 4 this year and I am starting to feel seriously pessimistic that he will have any chance of buying his own place in 20 or so years time. I had previously assumed that all this nonsense would be over by the time he is an adult.

    Hopefully the pendulum will start to swing in the other direction but when you look at all the props the government are putting in place to stop new building and condense demand I wonder.
    Why not take action now to make sure your son has a home of his own in the future by jumping on the BTL bandwaggon?

    Well it would crash the property market. So that house values are more achievable for the generation that has been left to deal with the mess the older generation have created.

    There obviously would have to be some fundamental changes to issues such as stamp duty (which to an extent would be offset by lower house prices).

    For contractors i am unsure. Could allow an allowance of properties which can be owned by businesses that could be rented out to the contractors on a need to basis?

    The problem is that answer to to problem actually makes the problem worse.

    I suppose the problem is greed and selfishness, those with those attributes really can't make sense of those of us who don't.

    HAMISH yah i read it and actually attended a lecture on it. Still from it i took away that the 'credit crunch' was caused by mortgages being given to people who were too risky.

    These mortgages were the trigger point that caused the credit crunch. You pretty much said it in your post?

    So nothing to do with the fact that the economy was based on people spending mroe than they earned by cashing in on HPI they did nothing to earn... then the taps got turned off and the free money stopped...
