I see on people's signatures the number of wins they have had, and often think to myself "did you *really* want that item, or are you just entering every competition that you come across?
I find it humorous that some people add wins to their signature and/or post in IWIWIW that they've won a prize when they actually haven't and it's a total lie.
There was a post in IWIWIW some time ago that said they'd won a prize from a very specific company. There was only one prize awarded and it actually went to my cousin's friend who was not the person posting on here! I saw the confirmation letter and everything.0 -
I started comping in Sep 2011, had some lovely wins along the way, did the dailies, everything.....
in Sep 2012 i got a full time job, and comping went out the window, i lireally couldnt find the time between working, kids, and house, so i think i did about 3 comps in that time...
Was made redundant in Jan 2013, and am back comping, but not as religiously as i used to - the break made me realise that i dont need to enter EVERY comp to win EVERY prize - i now only enter to win the things i want for me and my family!! xxJanuary Wins - Gangster Squad Goodies, Sun Lotion
February Wins - Wombles Goody Bag, Ideal Home Show Tickets, Lunch on Cruise Ship
March Wins - 2night family break to legoland, outfit from Kaleidoscope, Iron Cleaning Stck.
2013 aims - Ipad, Iphone, Family Holiday.0 -
I have stopped doing the Daily mag comps for the moment (don't think I have done them for a couple of weeks now, can't say I am missing them yet
), took up too much time and I haven't won off them, started to end up hating them...! I think I am entering less competitions in general at the moment, but that's because I have been quite busy.

I agree with all of the wonderful posters so far.
If you're not getting up in the morning excited about the day's comps then it is time for a break. You'd be a nutter to put in hours of your time for something you no longer enjoy. Personally, I'm enjoying the social side of this forum as well as the comps themselves. It's nice to read about wins and what people are up to and scams and all that jazz.
I'm sure there will be a time soon when comping will take a backseat for most of usDebt free 6th December 2014

I do dailies for an hour every day then one day a week do all the other comps. Leaves me time to enjoy other stuff0

Firstly I want to say a HUGE thanks tink for all the comps you post and work you do (that goes out to all posters, you are angels), don't ever think that you're not appreciated because you really are.
Secondly, I've been comping for 4 years and I've taken 3 long breaks and a few short breaks in that time - the longest break was last year when I took 5 months off  I wasn't winning at all and my health was bad so it just seemed natural to stop comping. I missed the wins a little but not the endless entering and disappointment - and I took some time for myself to learn a new language, get involved in a non-comping forum and generally relax.
If I stop winning I do tend to need a break because otherwise I can find myself obsessing about how unfair it is that I haven't won etc and that is, frankly, ridiculous and mentally very unhealthy.
Strangely, I ALWAYS find that the couple of months after I return to comping, I get really good wins. Then they tail off again :rotfl:
As soon as it becomes a chore, stop. Whether it be for a few days or a few months. I never make a conscious decision to start again, I always just drift back into it somehow.Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
I'd been wondering why I'd been so lucky on the mag dailies recently, turns out no-one else is entering them!
Echoing what others have said, go offline and go be yourselfIf you aren't getting fun out of something, then it's nearly always time for a change.
I was getting a bit blue about comping myself a week or two ago, being one of those awkward ones who comp by last message posted, with work eating up all my social time, I've got so far behind, to the point where I just had enough time to do the end dates for that day and the following one, I was thinking about packing it in (secret worrier, me) and that I'd never catch up and I'd always be chasing my tail.
Just decided to not let it pressure me, keep doing the end dates, and then catch up with the others, if I run out of time then I do. Certainly not saying you're in the same situation, but maybe take some of the pressure off yourself, get someone else to do your regular postings, and then just solely be 'a comper'. You've certainly paid your dues, and if it's still a bit much, then ease off.
If you need me I'll be off finding a blanket and a sherry glass for Creme de Menthe Blulu.Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

thanks for your replies everyone, i think i will take a total break
the daily mags are so bad at the moment, it wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt the same prize over ALL the mags in most cases, surely that means theres less chance of winning said prize?0 -

I haven't yet reached the point of wanting a break from comping altogether, but I am seriously considering ditching the dailies as I find myself losing the will to live when entering the same competitions 7 times each every morning!! I have done the dailies religiously for about 3-4 months and during that time have had one win, I have to ask myself, is it worth boring myself senseless for up to an hour a day on mind numbing dailies, for such a poor return!!
Like you say, less chance of winning the prize, if it's one or two of that prize spread out over 7 mags0
