taking a break from comping

Options
anyone done this?

been comping since feb 2011, won some great prizes, but now the wins are slowing down, used to win 15-20 things a month now im lucky if i hit 4-5

ive just spend over 2 hours doing and posting the mag dailies and i cant help thinking that my time could be better spent at the moment

i think back to the things i used to do for hobbies and i realise i havent done them for weeks/month, comping seems to be taking over my life

and its got to the point im not enjoying it any more and its stressing me out

time to take a break perhaps?

Never taken a break but sometimes I feel the housework gets neglected. I also insist on taking the laptop on holidays with us and fitting in a bit of comping when I can which is a bit worrying but I convince myself it is the same as taking a good book with me. Luckily DH doesn't mind as he enjoys the prizes. I tend to comp away while watching TV etc.
Don't think it should be stressing you out though. Maybe have a break from the Dailies as they do seem to take forever these days?

If you're not enjoying it and it's stressing you out then I think it's definitely time for a break from comping.

You say you haven't done any of your other hobbies in week/months.
Comping is a hobby but when it starts to take over everything else that makes it a chore...not a hobby.

So yeah, take a little break and see how you feel :)

I agree with purple-x - if your heart isn't in to it then you should hve a break - you never know - in a few weeks you might feel refreshed and want to start up again. Life is too short to be spending hours on something you are not enjoying. I tend to comp less once the warmer weather comes as I love walking and the fresh air . I have a dog now so she will motivate me to get out and about more!

I must admit that the dailies have started to bore me now - time consuming, especially as we have to authorise the sharing apps each time. I used to whizz through them but not I just sign when it is time to do them! You have been a star posting them as it must take up so much of your precious time - I am sure we could cope if you have a well deserved break Tinks x

I agree, if it has become stressful then take some time out. I will have days when I do not comp at all as my life is pretty bonkers. Then I will have days when I enter for a few hours each day. The minute I feel its a chore I step away and it does me good. Re posting the dailies, is there someone else who can do them for you?? I do not do them but it sounds as if it is taking the fun away from your own comping at the mo.

I have been comping for 20 odd years and used to really stress about taking breaks worrying what comps I was missing etc, but I've learnt it doesn't really matter, forget about the ones you missed and get on with all the new ones posted when you return. I've taken up to a year break before and every few weeks take at least a week or two off - so I am just a casual comper now. I need to do other things in my life and enjoy other things - variety is the spice of life and I'd hate to think i'm lying on my death bed with Repetitive strain injury thinking all I've done is spent my life chained to a computer!

  • I've only been comping a year but I thought about taking a break last month because entering started to feel a hassle to me. Instead I cut down significantly instead. I enter only about 100 a day now instead of 200+ and if I don't feel like entering that day I sometimes do less (just daily comps). I've won way less this month but felt lots more relaxed and enjoyed comping again. I felt almost anxious if I missed comps or wouldn't get finished that day and I really don't want comping to my whole life!!

If you feel like you're not getting the same enjoyment than you used to then you should definitely take a break or at least rethink how many you want to enter.

    Good luck x

May you all have lots of luck, Emma xx

As others have said- perhaps cut back? I'm not alone in stopping doing the mag dailies now they take so long ;) !
I've also decided that the OCD approach I had before was stopping me enjoying real life, so if I'm having fun and miss some comps, so what? Life is for living!
Perhaps ask someone else to take over posting the mags for a while? I know from the times I haven't posted a comp I've usually done straight away that there are plenty of folk keen to have a go.
Maybe you've enjoy it more if you ease off?

There is another thread running where peeps are discussing comping on when away on holiday - the reason why I DON'T comp on holiday is because I need a break at times - comping 365 days of the year cannot be good for our health! No wonder people start getting stressed etc.

I took a four month break last year from May through to September.
  • I agree - if you find you aren't enjoying comping at the moment maybe a break would do you good. :) Either take a couple of weeks off or cut the amount you are doing so that you have time to do some of your other hobbies. Comping does seem to take over sometimes & I also struggle to get the balance right at times. I find I enjoy it more if I also make sure I have time for other things that I enjoy. :)
Thank you for all your hard work posting comps but you are allowed some time off! :)
