How Do I Install Printer Software

Options
Hi

How do I install printer software on a laptop which doesn't have a cd drive?

My son uses a notebook at school and then prints out his homework at home. It is a real pain as he has to attach it to an email, send it to me then I print it off for him.

Ideally I'd like to load the software for my printer on to his notepad.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

You shouldn't need to... What is the printer and is it on your home network, and what OS is on his notebook?

I haven't got a clue what a home network is?

We both have windows as our operating system.

    Printer is a Canon MP495

OK that is probably WiFi , the Home network is the connection between your router and your PCs. On his PC go to Printers and Devices add a new printer, select network and it should find it. Is it windows 7 or XP (or 8 or Vista)

Yes, we both have wifi. I'm on XP and without starting his notepad up, I don't know what his is. Will it be a problem if we are on different OS?

You will need different printer drivers for different OS's.
You can download them directly from Canon support, or copy them from the install CD supplied with the printer to a USB flash drive, and then install from that in the absence of an optical drive..
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Why not just plug the printer into the laptop, you may be lucky and find windows has a driver for it built in.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
