I expect one or more of the self storage companies will step into this market soon.

One of them already does, but only for storing important documents for companies.

If you think about it, if you have the secure facility already (grounds, building) then I guess it wouldn't cost much to section off an end, reinforce it further, and offer such a facility. I'd guess they would make more per square foot, but would people trust them with highly valuable goods rather than just somewhere for temporary storage?

Personally I prefer my own stronghold. I have a steel reinforced brick built room in my loft with solid steel door. Sure, if you spend enough time you can get past it, but the chances are any opportunist burglar isn't going to bother even opening the loft hatch, let alone bring his own power tools!

I had a small storage room with one of the well known providers at one of their local facilities for about three years and stored stuff like a lawnmower in it.

I ended up cancelling it in the end and getting rid of the lawnmower (other smaller stuff was stored in a back bedroom) as it was cheaper for me to hire one as year on year they jacked up the charges and had to pay insurance on top too as that wasn't included.

I would assume this might be an issue if you are used to a fixed fee for a deposit box.

Why don't you see if G4S offer this type of facility?
