It's hardly 'taking a leaf out of argos'.
Just in time (JIT) ordering has been standard for supermarkets for a long time now. The actual 'warehouse' space they have at each shop is quite small.
Most of the time this works very well but for slow selling items the stock level is very small and they can easily run out. Obviously if they get a run on a product that will also cause them to run out. Serious transport delays can cause a lot of gaps on the shelves very quickly.
And sometimes it's down to the supplier not being able to deliver. A couple of years back Tesco ran out of McVities Digestive biscuits and were out of stock for some weeks. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
just buy online0

Some of us cannot do that, we don't know where the OP lives. Online orders can find things out of stock too!
Personally I think the amazon idea is great, though not necessarily wanting to support amazon :~).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

If the OP has a local tesco, I would guess he lives in a well populated town, so postal delivery should not be a problem.
If an online store is out of stock, try the next one, there are loads, and they wont all be out of stock.

Simple, and wrong. :rotfl:There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Amazon subscribe & save is great but again stock isn't guaranteed. I had delivery 2 of Whiskas pouches cancelled due to being out of stock but things are looking good for delivery 3.
Just keep an eye on stock via Amazon and don't assume because it's on S&S that you will 100% get it.
I had noticed oos on my item and had been buying a box here and there just in case so I wasn't inconvenienced in the end.0 -

We have a Tesco, we live on a Scottish island, with no other Tesco unless we are prepared to cross the sea by boat (and either pay lots to travel or pay lots for delivery/carriage costs). If our store is out of stock then we don't get any (unless Coop, Lidl or local shops stock the item).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I don't live in a well populated town, but in a fairly quiet village.
The nearest Tesco to me is about 9 miles away and there is another one about the same distance in the opposite direction.
The only shop near to me is a small co-op, which is why I visit tesco about once every couple of weeks.
Both of the stores have the same stockholding (it's probably a standard setup for all stores), and both never seem to have more than half a doz of the particular item in question.
As to buying online, this wouldn't work as my job means that often get called in on short notice so I may well be out at the time of the planned delivery.
So not really so simple an answer to a simple problem.0 -
