    IP cameras over WIFI are as I understand it a lot lot slower than wired ones so I would steer clear of them, especially if you are using several.

    Sorry to be so long responding, not been well.
    I will now work my way through all your kind responses and work out what I think will do the job and if I may, come back on here for any further assistance.
    My main priority is to be alerted if anyone is attempting to break in and to keep my Dad safe.

    HI, any additional information regarding this matter? Where are you planning to install the cameras and what cameras are you planning to use? How many are you looking to get? You can monitor the video footages from the cameras remotely if you opt for an IP camera.
