Looking on the bright side, at least the endless inane updates of 'Mike just bought a green cow on Farmville' seem to have dried up..

I think what annoyed me the most about those is what they really say is 'Mike has so much spare time or such a cushy job he can waste time playing a stupid game' whilst you don't have a minute to spare.

Whoever wrote Farmville should be on trial in the Hague.

As others have said you can manage who you see in your newsfeed and who you don't. Either go to their page and hover over the 'friends' button and uncheck 'show in newsfeed' OR to the right of one of the posts you dislike there is a little downwards pointing arrow if you hover your mouse at the top right corner of the post itself. Click this and select hide. When you do this Facebook gives you two additional options after hiding the post, and you can click the links to change what updates you see from that person, or manage who you see posts from in your news feed.

Personally I also manage what status updates my friends see, by grouping my friends into groups like family, colleagues, UK friends, American friends etc. And when I post, I post to certain groups only, depending on what I'm saying. For example I test facebook games in my spare time, and I adjust the settings so that only other people who play the same games can see my updates from that game, therefore not annoyingly spamming people who don't wish to see such stuff. Perhaps consider asking your friend to manage their own posting in a similar way?

And for all those who hate facebook, that's your choice. I personally find it a great way to keep in touch with what's happening at home while I'm a long way away. I don't have any privacy concerns because I manage my privacy settings carefully, as any other user can do. I wonder how many haters have actually used it recently....

Thanks for the tip on getting rid of some of the crap my friends like and share on FB. :T Some of the pictures are awful, and like another poster I hate some of the racist bullsh*t some people post, hate it clogging up my bloody newsfeed.

If Facebook is for stupid people then I'm glad to be one I've them. I've won holidays including one to Dubai and lots of other stuff, plus I have friends who live abroad on there. :-P
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

I totally agree, I have several friends who post racist cr-p, pictures of severely mutilated animals, anti government and anti police in fact anti everything! I also hate all those who share stuff like....'I love my darling son/daughter/mother etc etc etc'. I've filtered out so much stuff my news feed is pretty empty! Yesterday one of my 'friends' tagged me in something called Faecbook Black, it turned out to be spam, which I untagged myself and then reported to FB. This morning I am happy to see it's been taken down. My 'friend' has been downgraded to 'acquaintance'.........

I love FB it keeps me in touch with family and friends across the world, and has been invaluable whilst my daughter has been cruising with her OH round the coast of Australia. I just wish FB made it easier to select what you do and don't want without having to refer to google or come on here for help.

My sources tell me that there's an Aberdeen-themed version of Farmville in development, but you'd see updates like "Wullie just bought a new sheep on Farmville Aberdeen" as updates.

Or at least I think my source told me it read "bought a new", could have been something else though ;):D

Tesco are bringing out a version 'Pete just bought a cow on Tescoville, DNA tests show it to be a horse in a costume. You need 200 tokens to buy another DNA test at £69.99, click now to go to online shop'

So its you! can't say you have not done well out of it but most your friends probably have you on hidden to avoid your prolific 'share spam' posts.

Test it out, post your pregnant with Robbie Williams love child and see if anyone responds.

FYI - If you also use Adblocker then there is another little trick for photos. If you right click over an offensive/annoying photo (eg. Share this or you are horrible) you can set it as an 'advert' in your personal system. This will mean unless someone shares it from a different orginial source any shares that use that exact URL for the picture won't show it!

I see no more racist stuff or the horrible animal cruelty stuff either. At least, not more than once! :)
