Can I view Freesat using existing Sky HD box

Hi there,

am thinking if cancelling my current Sky package, if I did this would I be able to use my existing Sky HD set top box and card to view the Freesat channels? If not would other equipment would I have to buy?

You will receive the Freesat From Sky channels-not Freesat, which is a different platform. No other equipment necessary-it's a straight box swap. Bear in mind that Sky+ will no longer function though, and you will lose access to existing recordings. If you need PVR functions, buy a Humax Freesat PVR instead.

You'll get all the Sky channels showing up but you won't be able to view them. Nor can you remove them from your channel list.

Deliberate policy? Probably. If you want just the free to air channels and nothing but the FTA channels then get a freesat box instead.

Box swap? Not needed in my experiance. Just keep using the old Sky box. You don't even need a card.

A Freesat box is necessary to keep the PVR functions, unless you pay Sky £120pa.
A viewing card gives you a few extra channels, and maintains the regionalisation.
