If you have invoiced for Royal mail and this is what the buyer is expecting I would not send it by courier without checking. As a buyer if I am expecting a RM package I know roughly what time my post arrives and if I can't be there the postie will leave a card where I can pop to my local depo. If it's a courier he can arrive any time and then I have to try to rearrange delivery or collect from a depo which can be up to 20 miles away.

I would be more unhappy about the switch in delivery method than the cost of postage. Just my thoughts.

They can collect from your house. There is a code which gets you 25% off your first order.
Could you please tell me where to find the code.

My wife has lot return an item she bought, so think it is time I try our myHermes. I have used Collect+ and UPS in the pat, but never MH. Only snag with C+ are the dimensions, for this particular parcel.

    Thank you !!!!

Me too - buyers are fully aware of delivery charges before bidding.

Courier deliveries are a pain for anyone who is not in the house from 9 to 5. Royal Mail depots are generally close for most people, and you can also reschedule a saturday delivery - couriers do not generally deliver on a saturday so if you are out the house 9 to 5 weekdays it can be impossible to get courier items delivered!

Well if happy with Royal Mail postage he would have been getting 2 parcels which may have come separatly. With the courier he is getting 1. I can track it and let the buyer know when it is due to arrive. It is now too late as I booked the courier yesterday. It is a bit cheaper. Should I offer some refund on the postage. I already saved £20 for him by combining the 12 items he bought into 1 parcel. Not sure about all this, never posted anything like this before

I'd be really annoyed if a seller sent an item with a courier without telling me first. I always give my work address if an item needs signing for, and if something was sent to my home address by courier without informing me first, it would be a real hassle to get it as the depots are all 30-45 mins away and they rarely offer Saturday delivery.

Yes, you should be refunding some postage.

You're about to see a whole lot more of it. ;)

Well it's too late now. Your advice didn't help me in time. So I will just have to put this one down to bad choice. Thanks to original posters earlier don't mean to be ungrateful to their suggestions of using the courier. Can't do anything now.

Don't worry about it, your buyer may be fine with either delivery and chuffed to bits with their purchases. :) I don't think anyone gave wrong advice though, it was only switching after sending the invoice that I was commenting on.
