Like Team Lowe said up to 12 months is perfectly normal and for most people it will happen within 18. From what I've read 6 seems to be an average. I'm not sure how they supposedly know this stuff though as they don't ask you when you got pregnant how long it took! It took me 8 months but I then had a miscarriage. Been trying for 2 months since then.

It's kind of like how long is a piece of string type question.

My first was an accident, so didn't take any time at all.
My second took four months, the first month I didn't produce an egg, so went on clomid, which only worked in months 2 and 4, fell pregnant on month 4, so it took me four months but only two of those was I in with a chance.
I'm 36 btw (pg with second now, had first baby 2 years ago)
Make sure you read up on proper timing of intercourse, use ovulation sticks if you want to improve your chances, and use a sperm friendly lube such as conceive plus if you really want to help those swimmers!

    Best of luck!

Of five pregnancies (all planned) I got pregnant within the first month for three of them and within three months for the other two. One of these last was when I was 42, so I'm assuming OH and I were just a fertile combination.

Our very "scientific" method of maximising our chances, btw, was to wait until my period had finished then make sure we had sex once a day till my next period, or when the pregnancy test showed positive. ;)

I thought it would take me ages due to my age (late thirties) and PCOS - so I started to use cheapy OPKs - but it happened the first time....and came as a bit of a shock! (a nice one of course!) We had plans of saving lots and getting our house ready - now with under 3 months to go we have very little time to do either!

Just be prepared for the unexpected.....just incase! (and make sure you are taking folic acid as well)

Keep in mind that some women experience mid-cycle cramps when they ovulate....cramps aren't the best thing to get you in the mood, but if they are a sign of ovulation for you then it would be a good time to do the deed!

For me on all 3 occasions, craving for carbs (mashed potato) sore boobs, darker nipples and the cramping were all signs.

3 children, 2 miscarriages and a bump on the pill.

    #1 was a one off
    #2 took 2 m/c and 2 years
#3, 4 and 5 were on the pill
    #6 took 8 months
#7 and #8 were just not prevented or tried for but both were about 18 months after the previous one

I then tried for another for 5 years. Got pg within 4 months of meeting OH our first was a complete shock as I had been told I couldn't conceive again then I got pg with the littlest when the other was 4 months old.

So just in 1 person there is a massive range of ttc time so it is impossible to say how long it will take.. It will take as long as a piece of string.

89% get pg in the first year of trying
