Laptop keeps losing internet connection

Found the cable (so am keeping it handy) ..then got my knickers in a knott as I don`t understand a single thing about what going on or what I was meant to try and do...sorry just not techinically minded.

I pressed the wifi button on the laptop and it stuck of off! so turned it off, unplugged everything, pressed F10 continually and some how it got wifi back on...not sure what I did or if this has sorted the problem but since doing that its not disonnected. (friend told me to do that as her laptop wifi button stuck about 6 months ago)
I`ve given the laptop back to my daughter and said for her to use it and let me know every time it goes off...but fingers crossed it might not.
Please can I come back for help in doing the steps you have all suggested if the problem comes back (I`m just scared to do things I don`t understand..sorry) and wasn`t sure what order to do them all in. I am very grateful for your help as always.

At long last we hopefully are getting the laptop sorted out. I have done and tried everything suggested and we still had the same problem. A friend checked all the updates and took it to their house with completely different broadband provider and it keep disconnecting there as well, so he said it was definitely a fault with the laptop.
Phoned John Lewis (we got the 2 year guarantee off them when purchasing it) and they agreed it was a laptop problem, it has now been returned to them for repair...so fingers crossed it soon gets sorted.
