First Direct account activation and internet banking?

Options
My acc no and sort code were given on completed the application. Do you need to telephone them to activate the account? As it just states that my debit card and other details will be on the way within the next 7 working days. Will this include internet banking or would i need to request this?

IIRC, they have to send you an 'online support ID'.
Then you have to call them for some other 'access ID'.
You need both to register for online banking.

Not FD, they usually answer in 2 rings 24 hours a day. There are no recorded messages, the customer service people are knowledgable, well trained, polite and can deal with 90% of all queries there and then. Even that number is free.

What Gizmo says is true. They answer straight away 24/7 direct to a person in the UK (Leeds actually), no stupid menus or holding. This really is First Direct's USP. They also reply to 'secure messages' within a few hours but you do need to phone them at least once to set-up security. After you phone them and set up your telephone password and memorable questions (DOB, mother's maiden name, memorable date and memorable address) they will send you a letter containing the two access codes necessary to set-up internet banking. For me these arrived three days after calling them. For the rest my debit card and welcome pack arrived 2 days after signing up on-line. PIN code for the card was about 5 days. Hope this helps!

So why the heck did you join a bank that has its core service as telephone banking

At least FD has good fast pick up time, so long as you do not call in the peak periods. Then that is the same for any bank.

I would not use the 0800 number too much or they will simply tell you to dial the 0845 number....
Which is free with a few tele providers now.

1st class stamp 60p. Last time I called FD it cost me 6p... Now changed call profile so i get free 0845 calls :rotfl:
