NDR Money and Very!

Hi Guys

I've been on a self managed DMP for the last 18mths and made real head way with all of our creditors apart from Very/Shop Direct/NDR Money/Complete and utter t**spots - whatever they want to call themselves!

I've been making payment of £82 a month to them and written and spoken to them countless times to advise this is all we can afford, yet they continue to ignore this and ask for minimum payment of £290 which is so unrealistic it's not even funny!!!

They have threatened me with defaults and passing me over to DCA and 18+mths later this still hasn't happened - which I am pretty sure they can't do this as they are making my credit file look even worse than it should do as it's shows I am 6+ payments in arrears  .

I have sent them a letter saying that basically I think that they aren't acting in accordance with OFT regulations, and lo and behold they frozed the interest for 2 months whilst they investigate - first time that they have done this is the entire time I have been corrosponding with them! But the 2mths have passed and I've filled out another SOA for them, and still getting letters saying that they need a minimum of £290 a month. I am pretty beyond fed up with them now, and I want them to do as they have said and move me to a DCA (so the extortionate interest and charges will stop) and default me so I can start my 6 years reset.

I am tempted to stop paying the £82 until I get a satisfactory response from them, I've never not paid anything but I was hoping this might shock them into realising I am not just going to roll over and let them carry on with their nonsense.

Any advice greatfully received!

x

Could well be the best option with these clowns.

"Clowns" is a very apt description :) I can't believe they can just get away with it or that I've let them get away with it!!

I doubt I'll get a bonus big enough to cover them, and if I did I think (rightly or wrongly) I wouldn't want to give them it :)

  • Hi Mogsi, My situation is similar to yours. Jan 2012 I was unable to make my usual monthly payment with Very due to changes in my circumstances, this resulted in the following month needing to make a double payment which I couldn't do so made a payment slightly more than my usual payment. Anyhow the small amount of arrears continued to increase as I desperately tried to get back on top of my account, without any assistance from the Very customer services I might add, who demanded that they'd accept no less than £255 per month!!!! I struggled for over 12mths paying this and in that time have paid them well over £2000, yet my balance has not decreased as the majority of my payment was going on the interest £178 some months, plus charges that are added each month as payment was never received before the 28th due to my husband not being paid till the last working day of each month.

So it's just recently that I've stopped making any payments (missed 2) as I refuse to continue this for a further year, simply chucking money away!! It's finally become clear to me that until my circumstances change I'm never going to decrease the amount as they offer no assistance by way of freezing interest for a few months, whereby back in the earlier days I'd of been back to making my usual monthly payments.

They were not interested and would not assist with that.

So, at present I'm still awaiting them to pass it over to NDR as they obviously want to charge me more and get as much as they possible can before passing it over. My debt can actually begin to decrease once I set up a payment plan with NDR.

So I'd advise to stop paying altogether as that's the only way they'll hand it over. Keep making payments and they're the ones that benefit at your expense. I only wish I did this sooner, but I thought that my payments I made were going towards clearing my arrears, so I could go back to making my normal monthly payments. Obviously they weren't; it was interest on my account as my arrears didn't seem to even be decreasing??

So here's to NDR getting in contact with me, so as I can actually begin clearing this balance once and for all.

Have to say though having been a long loyal customer of Very, upon occasions clearing all my balance at times. ONE hardship I encounter and not one ounce of assistance from them with the suggestions I gave to them that would of prevented this from escalating to a greater debt, but then that's what they wanted from the beginning. They're not there to aid you, it's their payment, their way regardless of how unrealistic that maybe, as opposed to a more realistic plan that I submitted, but then that would mean they'd of made no money off me. Clearly there to help after all...:) lol.

NDR are very/shop direct internal debt collection, so interest is unlikely to stop and they will probably still add missed payment charges.

Best bet is to ignore NDR for a few months til they sell it to an external DCA. Then interest will stop.

I guess it's a recently opened account after April 2007?

  • Well thought I'd give an update: Very catalogue has passed it over to NDR and a truly lovely lady called me this morning and set up a realistic payment plan with me and informs me that NO further interest or charges will be added, so now my repayments will actually go toward reducing my outstanding debt. Although I'm still peeved at the fact that Very were useless and offered no help whereby this debt was allowed to escalate. Needless to say I shan't be using Very anymore and shall close my account once it's cleared. I was informed that my catalogue account shall remain open and I can even continue to shop on it (not in a million years!!) after Very showing their true colours.

I really wish I'd stopped paying Very catalogue last year so this could've been passed over to NDR, but then I'm new to all this so a lesson well and truly learned.

So here's to reducing the debt and closing the account..:)

I get quite annoyed with businesses that don't want to deal with people in trouble themselves. One payday loan company forced me to default on my payments before they would deal with me. You would think that it is against their own commercial interests to not let you manage the debt properly.

I had similar dealings with very. When my mum was terminally ill and dying due to this circumstance and not being able to work full time I wasn't able to make the full monthly repayments. I rang and explained but they didn't show any compassion and simply told me interest and late charges would occur. In the end I forgot about and ignored them until the passing of my mum had happened, by this time my £400 debt had escalated to £1600 in a matter of months!!! In the end they passed it to NDR they were being unreasonable aswell so I went to my local council office and received free debt advice they sent off a letter on my behalf requesting lower monthly repayments and for the interest to freeze and lo and behold they listened to them (altho I was telling them myself how much I could pay etc). So now I'm paying the debt off and I can't wait to clear it!!!

So glad you got this sorted. I was in the same position, called NDR and they agreed a payment plan with me said they would send me a letter and I would need to return it for it to start. Didn't receive first letter called again and they said they would send another. Received second letter and returned next day, as it had to be returned within 2 weeks to ensure the payment plan could start. Emailed them to ask when first payment would be as hadn't heard anything to be told that payment plan no longer available as didn't receive letter in time!!

I've still to phone them and arrange something else but bloody loathed to do it because I'll be annoyed if I need to pay more!
