Have a search on t'web for Motability dealers - they normally have the best range of autos.0

£6,000 won't get much Mercedes and only recently has quality improved to acceptable standards, I'd rule them out.
Ford Fiesta, reliable, bland, cheap insurance.
The Honda Jazz is a sensible choice, you will pick up a 2002 model auto for £6,000 without much trouble, it will be very reliable and retain its value well but will be more to insure because it's Japanese.
The Ford Focus beats them all, the 1.6 3 door Zetec CVT auto is a great car, it will be newer, cheaper, very reliable, nippy, insurance friendly, larger and safer. They are often used as Motability cars and there are always plenty of low mileage three year old ones about as thats when Motability change them.
I accept that they are all over but that's because they are good, you will enjoy driving it, I suggest you try one, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Another vote for the Honda. My mum has an automatic Jazz, and it's fantastic.0

Save your money and buy decent cars, not rebadged mercedes which are causing merc loads of money due to their rubbishness.
Honda Jazz is a great vehicle, however, second hand ones are rare.
Mmmmm, bit of an off the top of the head opinion there about Smart cars. Have you driven a Smart? mechanically they are very sound cars and will offer many miles of reliable cheap motoring. I have had a ForTwo for 2 and a bit years and I have not an once of trouble from it. £35 tax, £160 fully comp insurance and 200 miles plus from £16 of petrol - so the economics are good. The drive is good aswell if you intend driving it normally and not like a racing driver, even at ellevated speeds they hold the road well. Just as comfortable as most cars really and I am 6 foot 3 inches tall and I have no problems.0 -
On autotrader.co.uk:
2006 Kia Picanto 5dr auto, air con, choice of 2, both less than 5k miles - £59990 -
I thought a Smart FourFour was a rebadged Mitsubishi Colt. Terrible waste of money.
Go for a Lexus IS200.Can I help?0 -

Would you mind going into more detail about the unreliability wolfehouse? I'm going to look at a Yaris today that I think is how you described as 'clutchless manual'. £3,495 for a W reg (local car sales garage). I notice that Yaris seem to hold their value from the prices I have seen around. I hired one once and always said I'd get one when I could afford it - still can't really afford it without using finance (6%).DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

not quite true.......0 -
The Honda Jazz is without a doubt the best small automatic I have an elderly relative who is on his second one and he has owned various small autos.
I have as a stop-gap a VW Polo auto it is easy to see why people buy them they are so easy to drive. If it was not for the fact that VW do not offer a diesel auto version I might be tempted..........0
