Even cutting across to the M1 on the A50, Leicestershire is a lot easier for Stansted than Liverpool. Not halfway on distance nor time. I had thought about Stamford, but ruled it out on not being close enough to halfway.

    I'd query 'a lot' of difference ....?

AA route planner has Liverpool-Kibworth as 2 hours 32 mins and Stanstead-Kibworth as 2 hours 16 mins. So while I agree not exactly half-way, I was assuming quarter-of-an-hour wasn't that significant given the nature of the day trip.

Some of the other suggestions like Kenilworth, are only 2hrs 7 mins from Liverpool, but 2 hours 45 from Stanstead.

[Personally I find the AA timings a little optimistic in absolute terms, but they're useful for relative comparisons].

Google has Stansted to Kibworth as 1 hr 38 min vs 2 hr 30 min from Liverpool. M11 M14 should be quite a good run, I don't think it's far out.

Pity the weathers so bad, there is a nice cafe at Wellesbourne airfield right on the side of the runway, has an indoors but in good weather its lovely to sit in the outside patio to eat and watch all the light aircraft coming and going a few feet away.

Leamington is a very pleasant regency spa town ... good for shopping. If you find it's not your thing when you get there Warwick is very close by. People always like one or other ;-)

Are you staying at Walton Hall ... it's just that you refer to it as a place to visit, but it's really just a hotel. I wasn't sure whether you thought it was a hall to visit like a National Trust property.

    Thanks all
LittleMax, yeah, have actually booked a room at Walton Hall, didnt want to say as I mentioned meeting up with an old friend, didnt want people to think anything you know, was going on :o:o

Looks a beautiful hotel, booked online but think its in the newer building not the main house, ive read reviews saying you can pay more to stay in the main hall itself, i may look into it.
