    Crumbs; you are talking about a big geographical area, can you be a bit more specific about your needs?
    Royal Leamington Spa is a nice georgian spa town and you have Warwick/Stratford and the more quiet Kenilworth with lots of historical association and buildings near by, but they are not that close to Birmingham.

    The Clarendon Arms in Kenilworth is a nice place to visit and is set in the old part of Kenilworth near the castle.

    The area is called Little Virginia and has some lovely thatched cottages on across the street from the pub.

    Thanksd people, sorry explain a bit better, want to catch up with an old friend who lives in liverpool, and im near stansted airport so they suggested birmingham as half way to meet. Never been to birmingham, but for some reason dont fancy it I'd prefer to meet somewhere a bit quieter, prettier, more tradtionally english... Plus if its this side of Birmingham thats a bonus :D

    cheeky monkey; brummagem is lovely;)
    being serious;
    Liverpool and Stansted are totally opposite to each other with regard to Birmingham being in the "middle" with the Liverpool friend having a more straightforward journey...theoretically, because there are massive roadworks on the M6 between Wolverhampton and Birmingham at the moment, sorry, for the next year!
    So, if you are feeling kind, the Kenilworth/Warwick/Leamington Spa area was quite a good idea of yours and the area around the castle in Kenilworth is pretty; although I'd probably recommend Warwick if you wanted to spend more time walking around.
  • Lichfield might fit the bill - small, attractive historic town (well, city due to cathedral) with several things to see and do ... but not too big to get lost in:

    I've not been there yet myself, by the way, but Sis and I have noted it as somewhere we'd like to meet up, from London and Mid-Wales.

    Would agree with Lichfield. It is a pleasant town with several nice places to eat. Location is good as neither of you would have to contend with the busiest bits of the M6 round Brum.
  • On second thoughts, I once stopped off in Market Harborough for lunch, and was sorry I couldn't stay longer - very small town with interesting features. Possibly more like half-way for you two? Perhaps your friend could avoid M6 near Wolverhampton by crosing over to the M1 further north?

    Very little online about it but the Museum seems to be rated highly, and the thatched 'Swan' at village of Braybrooke scores highly on Tripadvisor as a good, freindly, reasonably-priced place to eat.

  • Or how about Kibworth in Leicestershire, which featured in Micheal Wood's 'Story of England':

    Pretty much half-way.
