He left without you checking the shopping and signing for it???

He definitely shouldn't swear but I don't think drivers actually have to come up if you don't have a lift. Of course the supermarkets don't communicate this properly to customers!

Really? They have to come up my stairs, the stairs are outside and there's only each flats separate front door. Like it's a terraced street up some stairs. Have to say though that the drivers I've had while I've lived here are always lovely, it's a shame the OP got a miserable git for a driver.

Order a shop from asda, Currently on a crutch and not particularly mobile thus the order, put this on delivery note asking driver to bring shopping up stairs (I live in a flat) and also answered my buzzer asking the driver to bring the shopping upstairs.
Driver proceeded to swear all the way up stairs "for f sake" and similar before proceeding to dump all the shopping at the door, complain he doesn't deliver to flats then promptly sod off!?
Complained to asda and they haven't bothered getting back to me either, cracking customer service..

Whilst I appreciate the fact that you are on crutches, what did you want the driver to do? Bring it into your flat and put it away in your cupboards?

He brought it upstairs for you, albeit under duress and his swearing shows this, but it may be policy that they do not deliver to flats, only to the main door of the block. They may have umpteen deliveries to do each hour slot, so doing this for you would delay him, he will be time managed by the store as well as tracked by the vehicle.

Most couriers will not deliver to a flat door, I would not expect them to do it either, there is more to this than just the driver being miserable. He most likely has been told to do it that way.

Of course he is insured. He's talking nonsense.

I've not done an Asda online shop for almost 2 years, but Gavin from Trowbridge was politeness and helpfulness personified.

Granted, he rang me before delivery as he was running ahead of time to see if he could deliver early - not a problem - so he was probably feeling happy as he could knock off early.

Up a long wet path, steps to the front door, and he even offered to carry them to the kitchen, and a nice chit chat thrown in to boot.

I don't think your moan is with Asda - just the arsey delivery bloke - I accept he is representing the company, but he could be having a real off day, so give him some slack.

Yep he is insured on your home policy. Any accidents and it would be you he is claiming off.

Ocado will happily come into your house and pop your shopping in the kitchen for you, my drivers ask most weeks if I want my goods putting straight into the kitchen :)
I don't think they discriminate against flats either. My house is 3 storey with the front door being first floor and up a flight of steps, never had a driver so much as complain yet.

How would he know you have a home policy ? It's not like car insurance - there's no legal obligation to have either buildings or contents insurance.

Coming down your street would delay him, couldn't he just drop off in the town centre and you lug it home? Should the postman dump all mail at the street entrance regardless of where mail boxes are?

IMO the stores need to communicate to customers if they do not bring the shopping to your front door. Asda say "picked, packed and delivered to your door" and "great value groceries delivered to your door". My door is not down at street level, it's the entrance to my private space (I do go down to collect if at all possible since there is poor parking locally, but expect very heavy items to be brought up).
