Separate bills and accounts for BT broadband and phone line rental?

Dear $avers,

we have been renting artist studio for a few months with broadband included with rent however the property manager had disappeared (he was a weird, unreliable individual, so no wonder) and left us with unpaid bills. We are now paying the rent to freeholder directly but the broadband connection is in the name of manager's company. Since freeholder is not really interested in managing the property themselves, it is left to us tenants to fix things.

Now, we would like to keep the BT broadband connection -- we still receive bills on this address and can use Fastpay online for payments.

What is confusing though, we are receiving 2 bills, one in the name of the manager (which seems to be broadband bill), and the other one in the name of company which is for phone line rental. Each bill features a different account number so we are not sure whether we should pay both, or just the broadband one which may have the line rental included?

Anyone in the know? A quick search on the internet and BT knowledge base didn't clear up the matter, so I'm posting this here.

    It's possible to have seperate bills/accounts. I doubt you'll be getting billed twice for line rental but you'll need to check the bill for this. If no one pays the line rental bill then you'll find that both accounts get suspended as you can't have broadband without an active phpne line.
  • Does the broadband bill mention line rental being included? That'd be the first and most obvious thing to check.

    No, there isn't much written on the bills however one of them lists a phone number and the other doesn't, so I guess that must be it -- they are indeed linked.
