Speakers

Options
I'm looking to buy some speakers for my laptop. Not looking to spend a huge amount (maybe a max of £50 or £60) for the speakers and a subwoofer too.

Since this is a laptop, clearly I only want a 2.1 system... but i'd be interested to hear if anyone has any recommendations from experience as there don't see to be many reviews out there...

Do these speakers have to be as portable as a laptop? Do you have existing Audio/visual apparatus that you could connect to the line out of your laptop

I've had good experience with Yamaha p.c audio.

    Yamaha YST MS50 -
    Drivers (per satellite): 2
Satellite power: 20 Watts RMS per speaker (x 2 speakers)
    Subwoofer power: 40 Watts RMS
Frequency response: 32 Hz to 20kHz
    No Dolby decoding

If you have lots to spend look at the Harmon/Kardon http://www.myagent.dk/pd_ssii-thumb.jpg

    Simply lovely!

No, the speakers don't have to be portable... and i'm sure I currently have nothing else which plugs into the line out... (other than headphones of course!)

I just want some speakers to listen to MP3s in my room mainly

I got the Kinyo ones from ebuyer.co.uk on the strength of the reviews.

2.1 and they are very good.

    Cost about £15 delivered.

Ah, i see what you are saying now. Because I rent a house near uni, and usually go home at weekends I leave my stereo at home. I just wanted to get some nice speakers to hook up to the laptop on its own.

I bought a pair of Aiwa UZ-US301 on EBay today there were 5 sets up and only 2 sold these are selling at about £100 on Amazon...I picked them up for £25 they were listed in the wrong section. These are for my son's laptop and look a good deal. Keep an eye on EBay over the next few days they might reappear.

I personally have Altec Lansing 221 which I think are great.

Bought my nephew a pair of TDK flat panels for Xmas again from EBay they are nice (can't remember the number) but not often seen on EBay.

Personally I think you will do very well on EBay there are a lot of end of line stuff and good bargains to be found.

I'd recommend Altec Lansing too, had mine for must be 8 years and can still vibrate the floor.

I'm also looking for decent laptop speakers. However I would like to keep them portable (i.e. two speakers rather than with a sub woofer).

    Any suggestions?

@newfoundglory - another vote for the Altec Lansings. I have two sets of these (http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details_intl.asp?pID=121&region=europe&country_code=gb) one on the pc and one in the bedroom which I plug the mp3 player into. (no room or cash for a full stereo and this does the job very nicely :)) they should be significantly less than £50 too iirc.
