Replacing bathroom, Recommend me a website for bathroom full kitouts

Hopefully in the next few weeks my mortgage app will be accepted so i'll need to locate a bathroom installer as the bathroom in the house is prehistoric and dirty as hell.

It's a very small bathroom, Just enough room for bath, toilet and sink so hopefully that'll keep the costs down. I need to buy everything new (Bath, sink & toilet) and also have the floor and all walls tiled.

Any recommendations? Websites? I was looking at tescos but they have no prices guides !!!!!! lol

I'm in North Lincs (AKA south Humberside) / East Yorkshire area,

The other option i had thought of was to buy the items from plumbword then just find someone to tile and fit everything for me, Not sure what to do though tbh

How long would you expect this job to take?

Cheers

  • You can pickup an entire bathroom suite from ebay for around £350. I did, but it was a bit crap. I should have spent more - wonky ceramics etc.

You can get some bland/inoffensive tiles for a similar amount ( + spacers, floor/wall adhesive, grout, edging ) .. (£350 in my case), but it depends on the amount of wall/floor coverage you need. I did 2 walls floor to ceiling, and the other 2 half height.
I needed the floor ply too, about £50/60.

You'll need bath & basin taps / waste / shower perhaps? / towel rail? and pipework for water/waste/sewage - I paid about £350 for all this too.

Then you need someone to fit the lot or take on some of jobs yourself and interleave the tasks. I did the latter - there are loads of vids on youtube about fitting floor/wall tiles etc.

    Finally accessories - paint/mirror/shelf/bog roll holder/bog seat/cabinet/bin/bog cleaner/window coverage blah blah. £250?

I replaced an entire bathroom for about £1600, it's cheap and nasty, and a bit crap - but I did it to sell. It looks awesome until you look closely and really scrutinise it. You can spend as much as you like though if you want it seriously nice :D ...

Whole job was under a week, but I was learning everything as I went. It could be done in half the time next time :D

It doesn't matter how large or small the bathroom is. The plumbing for a bath, basin and toilet is the same. From a tiling perspective you still have 4 corners a door a window and bath suite to mconsider and they are what take the time. So it doesn't matter if the bathroom is 2m x 2m or 4m x 4m the small one won't be half the price of the large one. Sorry.
    .....................sink............................
Why would you want to do the washing up in the bathroom?

If its of any interest I'm off to Grahams for my food shopping in the morning LoL!! Go to a local independent who can (and will) do you a good deal and will also recommend an installer. The internet shop fronts and sheds are fine whilst eveything goes according to plan. But it won't and customer/ technical support is, I am afraid, in the most cases the wrong side of dire particularly with the interwebthingy guys.

From stripping out to finishing including all decorations and tiling up to about 10 man-days. The size of the bathroom is irrelevant. Actually its more difficult to work in a smaller room than a large one. Smallest I've done was 1.6m x 1.7m IIRC including bath, basin and toilet. The loo had to come out every morning to give me room to work and be put back in every evening so they had the facility overnight.

You're presuming a lot lol. Where have i said that 2 x 2 would be half the price of 4 x 4, That was you, Not me. I said it will HOPEFULLY keep costs down.

Tesco give a product lift time guarrentee on all bathrooms sold. Do you know many independants that do that??? I'd like their names! Most only do around 10 years lol

Yes you flatter me and you're right, imitation is the greatest form of flattery so thanks for doing it :D:D:D:D:D:D

I don't want to cheapest going, It needs to be quite good, I'd never use ebay for something like this as its a nightmare to sort probs out. I thought plumbworld was really cheap tbh but it looked decent stuff too.

The other good thing about using an online place like tescos is that i think most give you the option to use finance, So i can then get a better one, I also need a new kitchen too so i'd defo need finance on that. The quotes i've been getting just for my small kitchen (cabinets and installing only) is 8-10k

You did it in under a week? That sounds good, I hope mine can be done as fast as that.

So i'm guessing to get a half decent one done i'm looking at 3-4k as i won't be able to do any of the work myself, I don't have the time with work and looking after a newborn lol, Hmm better get the old creditcard out lol

Yes I know that. I am presuming absolutely nothing. I was just trying to show that that just because its a small bathroom it doesn't mean a vast saving over a big one thats all and HOPEFULLY might be misplaced. You can take it or leave it TBH - its no skin off my nose whatsoever.

Good for them and you really should think outside the box a bit. Its on their (which isn't theirs anyway its just MkII using the Tesco brand) sanitaryware not installation or anything else. If sanitaryware comes out of the factory with a flaw thats managed to bypass QC then it will be pretty obvious (like the loo that threw water all over the floor for me just recently that had a casting defect that was invisible. Lifetime guarantee - marketing hype. They can offer that because they know they'll never have to deliver on it.
Yes you flatter me and you're right, imitation is the greatest form of flattery so thanks for doing it :D:D:D:D:D:D
Well as I've been signing off all my posts here this way for several years and you've barely been here half a dogwatch and only just recently started doing it anyway its ironic that you think I'm imitating you. But if you want to think that thats fine by me - I'm not going to burst your bubble.

Do you tile it first or put in the bath, toilet and basin first then tile it afterwards? Just so i know who to get in first, to start the work.

Yes, I agree. I "inspected" the stuff on delivery. Nothing was broken/chipped etc, but only when it came to the installation did I notice that the sh1te I bought at bargain price was in fact wonky as hell and by then it was too late and I didn't really care.

It was quick for me because I was doing alot of the time consuming stuff myself when I got home until really late into the night. If you're getting multiple tradesmen in for the job, I can easily imagine it taking longer.

Being without a flushing bog (We needed to use a bucket filled from a tap) for several days was a real ballache. And cleaning teeth & washing in the kitchen sink was quite unpleasant too.

Seriously though, look into tiling yourself on youtube. It's not hard, it'll save you tonnes, and also - you'll probably take it far more seriously and be fussy. A mate had a tiler in to do his bathroom, and it was sloppy as hell.

Bath was the first thing in for me ... this was my reference point to start tiling.
I had to then do then floor/wall tiles before bog/basin/towel rail - (only the bits that go behind them.)
I finished off the tiling after when all else was installed.
This is what I meant about the interleaving.

And I've just noticed your edit about not being able to do any yourself. As such, I don't know the "proper" order, so I'll let the pros answer :)

EDIT: don't b1tch with keystone, he gives good advice .. I've read many of his posts. Top bloke.

In your opinion, considering i need to pay for everything including fitting costs is it possible to do it for 3k ? (to a good quality standard?) ie good make of sanitary items and fitting? I may be able to get a discount on plumbing as i could go see a old school mate, so that'd be cash in hand.
