    hello, thanks for replying.

i dont base many meals round potatoes at the minute, do you mean like jacket potatoes?

oh wow cant believe the response i have gotten on here.
I've tried to thank everyone as i am genuinely really thankful, let me know i i have missed anyone.

the banana bread idea is brilliant scrimpingandsaving, and i will be having a go at that either tonight or tomorrow.
thankyou for everyone who has tried a meal plan for us as well. once the tiny tot goes to bed im going to make a meal plan using all of your ideas and my own ideas as well.

today we had cheerios for breakfast but we still have over half a box left. little girl also had some strawberries.
we went to a birthday party just after lunch time so we filled up on party food.
they were a bit extravagant actually- lasagne, potato pie etc and the usual kid food so we are full up from that.

and ive made the biggest ever bolognaise in my slow cooker ever. it has the 2 packs of mice, 1/2 a pack of cooking bacon, a whole onion, handful of mushrooms, family size jar of dolmio + full jar of water.

i think we could actually get 6- 7 meals out of it.

    lol.

I'm in a similar place at the moment but only feeding myself. I would also suggest buying some oats as you can use them for breakfast/cereal bars, biscuits or with flour to make fruit crumble. I always have a big bag of them, the basics ones are fine.

I'd also suggest making some little treats for yourself and your little girl as then even if you aren't eating your normal meals, you will still have something special to balance it. Maybe some biscuits/cookies or some little cakes. A big saucepan full of homemade soup could provide lunch for two days then the rest could be portioned up and put in the freezer.

If you have an A1di nearby they have 6 fruit/veg items on offer every week, so worth stocking up.

Soup ideas - tomato ( can used tins of chopped), red lentil, tinned beans, bits of bacon, onions, garlic, herbs and stock.

Sweet potatoes (or butternut squash), carrots, onions, any other root veg, stock, a little curry powder.

Chopped leeks, potatoes, onion, stock, herbs and seasoning. Could add bits of ham or bacon too.

Frozen peas, leftover lettuce, fresh (or dried) mint, stock, seasoning, potato to thicken it, bit of cream to finish off.

Just a few ideas to be going on with.

I think getting tins of potatoes from Tesco are a better buy, there only 15p/16p

  • okey dokey i think i have written my food plan for the next 10 days, feedback is very welcome.
the list of things i will need to buy is below also. the prices are based on Tesco online but I'll actually be shopping at Morrisons. i dont think there is that much of a difference

will just mention that i have also found 2 boxes of ready brek in the cupboard, the original flavor and the chocolate one. yum yum.

    here goes.

breakfast every day is going to be ready brek. admittedly quite boring but its filling and we have 2 flavors so im hoping it will be ok.

for 5 of the days DD will be at my parents and nursery. grandparents feed her lunch so on those 5 days i will take either egg mayo s/w or tuna sweetcorn mayo s/w. (3 days egg/2 days tuna)

for 2 of the lunches we go to my grandparents so thats free also.

the other 3 days we will be having crackers with soft cheese and fruit x 2, and cheese and tuna toasties x 1 day.

    evening meals
    5 x pasta bolognese.
the pasta will probably run out but we will switch to having it with rice.
2 x toad in the hole, boiled potatoes, broccoli, carrots and gravy
1 x fish fingers, scrambled eggs and beans
    1 x savoury bacon pancakes
1 x lasagne and garlic bread

this leaves us with quite a lot of fruit and a few yogurts for snacking. Ive also added a whole cucumber to my shopping list as DD loves to munch on them. we are also going to make shortbread and banana muffins tomorrow for general snacks.

also worth noting that DD has her tea at nursery 3 days a week (5 days out of the next 10) so she wont be living off bolognese. she will have a snack of either eggs, toast, fruit, crackers, or anything we have made .
she also loves milk and has about a pint a day.

my shopping list is below from tesco-

    value butter- £0.98
    value smoked back bacon- £1.70
    1 x onion £0.19
    400g value mushrooms £0.79
    value garlic baguette £0.32
    whole cucumber £0.80
    value mild white cheddar £1.69
    value soft cheese £0.50
    15 x value eggs £1.34
    2 x 6pints whole milk £3.78
    1 x value beans £0.25
    value wholemeal bread £0.47
    value washing up liquid £0.33
    colgate kids toothpaste £0.86

total is £14.00 which gives us a bit of change.

we may need to buy a bit more fruit later in the week but i get this from the market quite cheap.

let me know what you think? I'll be going shopping tomorrow afternoon so there's loads of time for me to revise it.

    thanks

    aw thanks downsizing-you're so nice.

i don't think we are massively fussy- neither of us are keen on casserole. i don't know if i just make them wrong but Ive slow cooked them in the past and they were naff.
little girl pretends she doesn't like bread but she eats it at nursery.....

    we have in stock.....

    5 bananas
    1 orange
    whole punnet of strawberries
    whole punnet of blueberries
    1 plum
    1/2 pineapple
    big bunch of grapes

3 cartons of kids orange juice

    283g mince x 2
    1/2 tin ravioli

    1/2 broccoli
    1/2 cauli
    1 onion
    3 carrots
    whole lettuce
    spring onions
    4 eggs
    handful of mushrooms
new potatoes- about 10 i think but quite big
    3 x kids yogurts

    6 fishfingers
    12 sausages
lasagne ready meal- quite big i think its for 2 adults
    cooking bacon
    3 mini chicken fillets
    frozen peas
    frozen herbs
    frozen mixed veg

    tin of carrots
    tin of sweetcorn
    family size dolmio
    tin of tuna
    sweet and sour sauce

    rice
    pasta
    bisto
    gravy pots (yuk!)
    cream crackers
    beef stock cubes
    sugar
    plain flour
    sr flour
    tom puree
    mayonaise

    1/2 box cheerios

phew thats actually quite a lot, found some things i forgot i had as well.

ive got the cooking bacon out of the freezer and with that the 2 packs of mince, onion, carrots, mushrooms and dolmio im going to make a huge bolognese tomorrow.
that should last us a few days.

thought some cheapy cream cheese would be good for a snack after nursery- cream crackers with cream cheese and fruit.

only other thing is my lunch at work needs to be cold as the queue for the microwave is disturbing.

thanks to anyone who can help x

Breckfast-I would spend part of £20 on

bread, cheapy value jam, maybe some crumpets and butter
could eat 1portion of fruit .
cherios-if small toddler reckon half box be around 5small bowls.

    snacks

I would try keep the fruit for lunches, yogurts and juice and healthy snacks.

    lunches

1 tin tuna, sweetcoen mixes with bit of mayo

sandwich fillings for few days my kids love tuna sweetcorn mixed with boiled pasta and bit grated cheese this could be ok served up cold in tub for lunch at work.

Maybe im odd but at home I love banana sandwiches.

Usually one tin sweetcorn and sweetcorn usually makes 2days sandwiches and 1 pasta meal so 3days worth of lunch.

1/2tin ravoli on toast could be good at home lunch for you or daughter.

I know you said daughter doesnt like bread you tried value pittas or my kids love wraps.

savoury rice boil up rice with stockcube and water.
once done stir in frozen mixed veg and possibly small chucks of cooked bacon.

pasta-the family dolmio should last least 2meals.

meal 1 pasta , dolimio and some cooking bacon.

    dinners

1)pasta bol-as you have pasta 1/2jar dolimio and some onions/mushrooms and herbs to chuck in.

2)lasagne with small portion salad ie lettuce, inion, carrots or mushrooms.

3)use the chicken with seet and sour sauce and some veg an serve with rice.

4)fish fingers and couple potatoes and frozen veg.

5)6/12sausages with mash, frozen mixed veg and bisto gravy.

6)omlette or fritta with salad from 4eggs.

7)some sort of soup onion springs to mind as needs onion herbs and beef stock.
I did carrot and coriander soup today from girl called jacks website as very tasty.

8)some minced and onion cooked then add bisto gravy , miw with frozen veg and top with mash potato to make cottage pie.

This still leaves you 6 sausages.

no 9) sausage casserole just cooked sausages in stock with herbs and veg thrown in, ideally one tin tomatoes or passatta.

you could try making piza base plain flour,
toato puree chopped cooked sausages or bacon
but you need some chedder cheese.

if you had cheese you could make cheese sauce and do brocoli bake or cheese on crackers as snacks and some grated on top of pizzas and pasta.

cheapy value garlic bread got aldis single garlic bread 34p other day kids love be ok with lasagne and pasta dish.

    reckon you need more potatoes

    you will also need milk.

what shops are local toy you as in easy to get to and cheap for you to get to?

    as co-op does best reductions
aldi and lidls can be fab
you could just get value ranges
farmfoods/iceland cheap for some things £1 cheese £1 milk.multibuys on bread.

hope this helps and good luck.

we have been there and had some very creative meals.
we on run down week before payday too and trying to live off what we have now.

    thanks

Iceland , lilds and aldis have milk at £1 for 4pints.
as does my mace post office and mcolls which is on high street,
farmfoods has 2 pints for £1.60 so 80p each.
if you can source milk at £1 for 4pints you can get 12pints for £3 saving you 78p.

buying 1onion seems false economy farm foods had bag for 39p lidls wassent much more or check out market as reckon you need more than 1 onion.

chese is pricey im sure you could get it cheaper.

spread can get cheaper than value butter been getting 500g spread adlis onw brand 89p or co-op had utterly butterly 89p.

think you need 1-2tins chopped tomatoes
    some value pasta

can the cucumber and kids tootpaste wait?
my kids sometimes use adult toothpaste wont hurt for short time period.

ready brek and cherios seem fine fo brekkie maybe alternated with toast.

you could try blueberry muffins but you might need more flour.

    fairy cakes

    2eggs
    40z sr flour
    4oz butter
    4oz sugar

    make 12cakes.

look for reduced bread near supermarket close time .
morrisons, co-op and spar best for reductions.

value jam maybe less than 50p a jar.
vakue cream cheese with bacon and pasta like a carbonara.

im not sure morrisions and tesco will be exact same prices though.

do you have any pound /cheapy shops near you that sell food as can get bargains in there on some things.

depending on price might be worth getting yeast and bread flour or can even make bread with plain flour you could make bread rolls if no bread tin.
im not sure would add scrambled eggs with fishfingers as double protein.

defo buy 1 bag potatoes that could be used to for some baked potaoes,

to make some wedges or chips

to make mash to go on top of mince so you dont have to have 5lots of spag bol have 2lots spag bol and 2lots cottage pie.

if you did my suggestion of getting cheap wraps then go packet section of supermarket ailses and could get taco mix and serve with wraps and rice.

i would try meal plan what you have and use that then buy bits and bobs as you need them and run out.

I know when moneys tight its cheaper to shop at several places than one shop and be on the reduced hunt and ensure getting the best deal I know its easier just to pop morrsions.

if you have bacon why buy more bacon?
Also why you buying more mushrooms.

    so my shopping lists is

    value jam-50p max
    bread50p
    cheam cheese50p
    chedder£1
    milk£1
    eggs
    potatoes£1-£1.50
couple tins passatta or chopped tomatoes£70p
    some extra value pasta50p
    possibly flour and yeast£1
    wraps£1 or less
    garlic bread 34p
    value washing up liquid

    total less than £10

    cheapy treats

    jelly
angel delight stule packet mixes where just add milk.
    value squash.
