facing a bit of a quandry - well DD is (she's 18 btw) and I want to be able to look at all angles with her so she makes the right choice - for her.
She has 3 months left of a 9 month college course and has recently found out she may have a shot at a job in an area she was very keen on last summer, but wasn't successful in getting a job in - hence the return to college (she's now in 2nd year).
If she were to get the job I think they want someone ASAP, so the offer would likely not be held over for 3 months while she finished college.
She likes the idea of the job, as she would be earning £££, and she does enjoy what it entails. Her course subject is nothing to do with what the job would be, and to be fair she's not interested in 90% of what she's studying, but 10% of it she is.
The job is a one off opportunity - situations where they approach you are few and far between these days I think - so should she grasp it with both hands if offered it?
I'm being a bit vague as you never know what a small world it is

Any chance she can defer or resit the final modules? Or re-take the year? Be helpful to know what course it is.
ETA - I mean the type of course, eg. HND, degree etc. rather than the subject or anything!:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -

No, it's an FE course - and she doesn't like it that much that she'd want to re-take the year, lol0 -
If its a situation where she will need to wait for an interview etc then that might take a while, and in usual circumstances they'd expect someone to need to give 1 months notice, so by that time it might be asking them if they could just add another month on to that?
It's hard to say without knowing what course she's on and what the job is.0 -
If its a permanent job doing something she likes v a course in a subject she is not interested in then I would tell her to jump at the chance.
I left my A level course as I did not enjoy what I was doing, my parents said I needed to find something first though. I found a YTS (shows my age!) job with a day release studying my accountancy exams. It was the best thing I could have done.0 -
Depending on the job & circumstances if she was offered it could she negotiate part time hours for the time remaining of her course so she can finish it.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

contacted us yesterday, interview is next week, outcome will be pretty much soon after. If going by 1 month notice guidelines DD starts half term end of next week so the month would be up when she was due back at college for summer term - 15 Apr to beginning July
This has all come out of the blue so to speak0 -
Replies while i was typing, thank you - the 'job' is a 12 month apprenticeship, and part time wouldn't, I don't think, be an option0

My DS2 was in this position last year: Offered a place in HM Forces, but with an intake date just a couple of weeks before his A Level exams. After thoroughly investigating any possible ways of deferring the job (none were possible) he decided to take it.
For him it was the right choice: It's a career he's wanted for a long time, and he wasn't planning to use his A levels for access to study something he was passionate about. It was more a case of doing A levels to fill time as the services weren't recruiting for his trade earlier.0 -
Depending on the content of the course it may be possible for your daughter to finish the modules required even if she takes the job. Colleges want to see good pass stats so are loathe to let a student who will pass go if there is any way they could get through.0

Is there any way she could do do the course as an night class?
If the job is something she really enjoys and sees herself having a career in, I would go for it. She's very young! If the job doesn't pan out, she can always go back to doing the course next year.0
