Has anyone had a growth ultrasound?

Hello all,
My wife is currently 30 weeks pregnant and we were advised yesterday that we need to go to a growth scan as baby was measured at 27cm 2 weeks ago but is now measuring at 25cm which is a bit of a worry
Its our first child so obviously we are panicking about it so was just wondering if anyone else on here has been through the same?
I have told my OH not to worry as it may be just she has moved position or something. All her movements are fine and she is still kicking away

Please try not to worry. I had mine a couple of weeks ago and it was fine.
This is my third baby and I have held them all small yet I still got the 'worried stare' from the midwife when she measured me! I measured under the bottom line for my bump measurements but my scan measurements are spot on.
At least they are keeping a check I suppose. Good luck with your scan.0 -
I had a couple of periods of non-movement during my recent pregnancy which resulted in a scan at 30wks to check little Bean was ok, he was described as a 'very active foetus' & is now a beautiful 4 1/2 wk old little boy called George
Also at one of my midwife appts she measured my bump, checked the hr with the Doppler & then measured me again, I thought she'd forgotten she'd already done it but it turned out the first measurement was massive but when she measured again it had gone back to a more 'normal' measurement! Turns out baby's position can make a massive difference to the measurements
I would just do your best to keep OH calm & relaxed then enjoy the pleasure of an unexpected opportunity to see your little one againPerhaps join the pregnancy thread on here too, I found it really helpful having others to talk to when I had any worries or questions

I had a scan because the midwife felt my baby had grown too big. It was absolutely fine. You could try to see it as just another chance to see your baby before he or she's finally here. You're understandably anxious but it will be very quick (quicker than the anomaly scan) and the sonographer will be able to quickly reassure you that all seems well then you can relax and enjoy the show!
I think midwives are a bit too quick to refer people for growth scans personally. All will be well."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I did with both of mine, I had to keep being monitored, chances are it's a precautionary thing. With mine first they were too small, then the heads were too big ( family trait lol ). Both were fine but petite 6lb babies, as were the all of the babies in both mine and my husband's families.0

I had this with my first pregnancy. The midwife measured me at my appointment with her and baby bump was a couple of centimetres out. Scared me witless. A scan revealed all was well though and baby had just been lying in a funny position. He has been awkward ever since
My sister also had this. Her midwife was feeling her bump and said babys head felt small. A scan revelead the daft mare had been feeling his bum!
Hope all is well with your baby and that you get reassurance as soon as possible. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
I wouldnt worry those measurements are not the greatest, depending on the midwife they always measure differently. Was it two different midwives? They send people for these all the time, I had so many as I have small babies apparently but they are all fine smallest is now nearly 20

Try not to worry. I have had two growth scans which say baby is big but they are happy to let me go naturally at term (currently 39 weeks).
Judging by your username you will be at the same hospital as me and the consultants/midwives and sonographers have all been great, happy to answer questions and put your mind at ease.
Hope all goes well. xxPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Congratulations. I had growth scans with all 3 of my pregnancies and all was fine, with ds3 my midwife referred me for a growth scan at 36 weeks as she was worried he was small and still breach. The hospital said his weight was fine and he was in fact head down! I had a scan at 40 weeks with ds2 and they said he would be born weighing around 5lb, he entered the world the following day weighing 8lb 3oz!
I would try not to worry too much.
