hello i am returning to ask advice i have posted a link of my old post starting a new one in hope people will see this better than the old one..
i contacted lowell after finding they had defaulted me on a phone contract that was nothing to do with me after sending them a prove it letter way back in august 2012 i have received a letter from them today
we write in reference to the above mentioned account.
we can confirm that we have conducted a review of your account and not that a response has not been received from our original creditor in relation to your dispute.
having take into consideration the amount of time taken to obtain information, we have taken the decision as a gesture of goodwill and with no admission of liability to close the account; you will receive no further correspondence from us in relation to this matter.
we trust that you will find this satisfactory and that this matter is now closed.
now the letter was written on the 8th march 2013 i checked my credit file this morning and it is still showing as defaulted..should i wait and see if they remove it? or should i contact them again and ask for it to be removed?
any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Yes, I would write back reiterating that:
- This is NOT your debt and has never had anything to do with you.
- You demand that they remove all credit file entries.
- That by knowingly reporting false information on your credit report that they are in breach of the Data Protection Act, and that such reporting may be defamation.
- You will reporting the matter to the OFT, ICO as appropriate.
If you have not done so already, then I would register a dispute via whatever credit reference agency it shows up on.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Well, if you have disputed it already via the creditor reference agency then they may not allow you to do that again.
But you can certainly write to Lowells as above.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Yeah - keep a copy of both this letter received and your response in case you need to send them on to the CRA at a later date.0 -

I think a call to the ICO is in order.
