please help me! going out of my mind!

hello really new to this and really need help last week i received a letter from lucas credit services saying that i owed lowell portfolio 1 ltd £673.54 and they were pursuing it and if i did not pay straight away i will have the debt collectors at my door i emailed them saying i dont no of such debt they emailed back saying the debt would then be passed back to lowell and i should not contact lucas credit services again but to take it all up with lowell.

so as i was shocked to receive this letter and even more shocked as i have never heard of either company i decided to get a credit report and with checking that report i have been defaulted by lowell for missed payments for 8+ months for a communications debt

no other information than that i only have one phone contract and that is with orange i have had the same contract/number for the past 5 nearly 6 years now and have never missed a payment

i have had no letters or contact from lowell and need to know what i can do about this as it is affecting my life now i have checked my credit report i will not be able to get any credit with that sitting there!

any help will be much appreciated and letter templates would be even more appreciated! thanks!

  • Sounds like a case of fraud/mistaken identity. I'd call up Lowell and try and ask for more information regarding this contract you're alleged to have with them. If you're still pretty sure it's not genuine then go to the police.

i have been reading into this and everything i have read has told me to never phone a debt collector as they will try anything they can to make me responsible is that correct?
  • Don't phone them. Copy and paste the letter in this thread

and fill in the appropriate details, then send it recorded delivery.

You should never phone a debt collector. They often have premium rate 084 numbers which can cost you a fortune, plus they can say afterwards that you said things you hadn't, or even deny receiving phone calls.

Always do it in writing, recorded delivery, and then there is no doubt about what you have said, and proof of contact is always available.

I would also suggest raising a dispute with the credit reference agency - they should be able to remove the entries unless there is proof the debt is yours. If they come back with some proof (e.g. forged credit agreement) then you can use this to go to the police and report the fraud.

  • Idiots

Lowell is with whom the OP is alleged to have the contract. Where did I say anything about phoning the DCA?!?

OP, don't contact the DCA, phone up Lowell and ask them why they think they have a contract with you which they believe you to have breached. Once it's established that you did no such thing, contact the police.

  • Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd is 3 network.

I had a debt letter from this company and wondered what it was so I called them and found out its the mobile phone network 3. In my case, I had taken out a contract and thought I had cancelled it but I forgot to pay the 1/2 month payment durr.

    Hope you get it sorted
  • lowell Portfolio is part of lowell group more so they are:
Lowell Portfolio I Ltd purchases consumer debt on behalf of Lowell Group better known as a DCA!!!!

so Boris, fancy retracting the "idiot" statement.
