Budapest is also a great city to visit. The food is great and the wine is really reasonable for good quality.
In May it should be warm and there is so much to see.
I can't wait to go again. We went in January -it was freezing but really
    enjoyed everything.

    Thanks everyone!
These suggestions are great. For some reason, Lisbon is looking really appealing so am going to look into that further!

    Thanks for your help,

    Lea

Lisbon is great, be sure to take a train out to Sintra while you're there.

I've really enjoyed reading all the suggestions, been to most of them myself and really enjoyed them. I'd add Florence, Berlin and Salzburg to the list. Oh and my next mini break is going to be Istanbul!:D

Oh and did anyone mention Paris or Bruges or Amsterdam! I love city breaks.

    Just remembered Seville too.

I stayed in hotel Mundial right in the centre of Lisbon. Excellent breakfast . Just take great care of your money . Had a money belt but someone got my purse out on a crowded tram. Managed to stop cards in time and hotel very helpful so did not lose much . Do go to the castle!

I'd also recommend either Krakow or Budapest.

So would I. I have been to both though not on BA city breaks and it was in 2001. I may return to Budapest on a city braek as the weather was poor on my previous trip. Krakow was lovely and definitely go to the salt mines which have already been mentioned. An orchestra was playing there when I went, to promote it as a venue for private functions (I think).

Nice for me. Great city with Monte Carlo and Cannes short train rides away (in different directions). Lovely time of year on the Riveria

Oh yes! I love that train ride that goes right along the coast.

Absolutely, by far the most stunning train journey I've been on. Exiting the tunnel from the built up area of Nice and seeing the amazing views as you arrive at Villefranche is simply breathtaking.
