I think it depends what you want been to meadowhall today and while the dvds and blu ray selection was poor the tech is great picked up the tdk boombox for £249 and got the slightly smaller tdk bluetooth boombox free worth £199 been watching it for a while so a £199 saving isnt to be sniffed at. They had a fair few left and expensive earphones etc

Yeah, i was looking at CD's and DVD's which weren't up to much, but sounds like you got a good deal :T

I was in one store that is closing down in 6 days and a lot of back catalogue stuff (e.g. Music DVDs, TV series DVDs) was 50% off. It's worth getting a price check on items at the till. There are still bargains to be had.

Had an incredibly annoying experience a couple of days ago at my local HMV. Walked in to find that *all* the DVDs and BluRays were now (apparently) 50% off marked prices so I snatched up some bargains. Got to the till only to find that the prices of some of the BluRays scanned it at 30% off instead of 50% off. The helpful lad did something to make them go through at the full 50% price off though he had to do it as 3 separate transactions for some reason. I walked out of the shop and checked and realised that the new Alan Partidge DVD I'd just got as well (which was 20% off the marked price) was on 2 of the receipts. He'd scanned it in twice. I went back in to get a simple refund for this invisible extra DVD and ended up with the lad going to get the manager to come sort it out. This manager came down and nigh-on ignored me to start with as he carefully scrutinised the receipts, zapped in all the items again slowly to check the price, and then told me that I actually owed them MORE money!? He was adamant that the 2 BluRay sets had gone through at the wrong price (as they were "chart items" and should have been 30% - though there was no indication of that anywhere on them at all and I picked them up from the normal section, not a chart rack) and would only give me a refund for the extra Partridge DVD if I also paid the extra he felt I owed. I told him I wasn't going to do that and, why couldn't he just refund me what was quite clearly a duplicate transaction but he wouldn't. I ended up getting a refund for the BluRay's too and they stayed at the shop.

Not impressed.

Sheffield city centre store was rubbish when I went a week ago, as if nothing was happening, all £££ far too overpriced, and hardly any of the CDs I wanted (all quite popular, some "classic" albums nothing obscure).

A few people said to me this is because they are closing down, but either close and don't restock and put everything on sale, or don't, keep your full price and stock decent, they can't have it both ways!!!

I got a few things and the girl at the till commented she really wanted them to stay open and hoped they would "go back to being a specialist film and music store." I didn't really have the time or inclination to give my view that this is their problem in the first place especially with the internet the way it is, and that games/posters/overpriced Tshirts have probably subsidised that end for years.

Not impressed at all, it's a shame the music industry has changed so much that I haven't a clue where to get a CD now (tesco??) but I can really see why they are going the way they are after my trip to the over priced poorly stocked store.

hubby went into King's Lynn HMV yesterday. Said there was a BOGOF on but only on their cheap £2.99 dvds & not a lot else.

Went into HMV Inverness today, what a crock of smelly brown stuff.

What happened to the original blue cross stuff, where did that all go. Since when did anyone pay £16 for a CD, buy one get one free....as if...

Treat people like idiots and, well, some idiots will fall for it, but most of us won't and you eventually go bust....seems they haven't learnt their lesson....

Belfast today was dire. Lots of prices back up from what they were a couple of weeks ago. Nothing I wanted was blue-crossed although a sales assistant mentioned 'it could be in it, we couldn't be a*sed stickering everything'. When I went to check a CD at the till the guy said 'Oh for f*** sake*'. Not the most pleasant experience. I understand the position the staff are in (I worked for Woolies when it closed and had to bear the vultures too!) but they didn't even pretend to be helpful or interested.

The prices, the attitudes. It was like they didn't actually want to sell anything!
