Tesco rewards not very rewarding

Sorry if this has been discussed, or is in the wrong section, but I'm not too happy about this. Yesterday I was quoted a price of £125 for two nights in a Mercure hotel. I was planning on using Tesco rewards vouchers to pay for it, and was going to exchange £40 worth, then I thought I had better check that the price wasn't any different if I used them. I phoned the hotel and was given another number to call. A gentleman called Raj answered the phone, and quoted me £198 for the same stay.
I'd have to use £65 of rewards vouchers to pay for this. Not that long ago £65 in vouchers would have been worth £260, now they are worth £125 at this chain of hotels.
Anybody know a chain which doesn't bump their prices up for rewards vouchers?

Your vouchers are worth total, times 3 so £40 = £120 once bought

Check Mercure's term/conditions on the Tesco club card site

I know what they're worth, what I'm saying is Mercure have a different price for Tesco rewards customers.

The price for Tesco Rewards Customers is often the full rack rate. If you used Clubcard vouchers then often the company only receives the face value of the vouchers from Tesco unless they've negotiated more. So £65 would be good for a 2 night stay.

I agree that £65 would be good for a 2 night stay, but doesn't this make a mockery of rewards vouchers being worth 3x face value?

yes but thats how it is - either a bargain in vouchers or a bargain hotel price - not both

£125 isn't a bargain though, it's the price. Why should the price go up if you're using vouchers?

If it was fair, then the hotel would accept £65 in cash or vouchers, but they don't.

£125 is the cash price. Hotel get £125.

£65 in (essentially free) vouchers is the voucher price. Hotel get £65. You pay nothing.

Sounds like paying with vouchers is rewarding to me.

It's often the case that using Tesco vouchers isn't the good deal it purports to be. I've often found that the company you're buying from do have a higher price when you use vouchers. (Usually the "full price" which no-one ever really pays in cash, a bit like the DFS sale.)

I think I'll give up on that one. So back to my original question, does anybody know a chain which doesn't increase its prices for rewards vouchers?
