Hi,

My DH is now 60. I've just found out he will get free prescriptions and eye tests, but I can't seem to find out how he claims for them. Could someone tell me please?

Do over 60s still have to pay for a dental check up?

He is working full time, and neither of us claim any benefits.

Thanks,
Candy

Hi I turned 60 late last year. Re the prescriptions on the back of the prescription is a list of several options. Just tick the one for 60 or over. Your age is printed on the front of the prescription at the top. I have not yet had my eyes tested since turning 60 but am sure they will tell you in the opticians. HTH

I am 63 and female. I get free eye tests, free prescriptions, and have to pay for dental check ups and treatment. I didn't know that men get this as well, I thought it was linked to retirement age. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm not a man, :rotfl:

You could always move to Wales, then you'll get free prescriptions regardless of your age and situation. We're a bit more advanced when it comes to healthcare than that third world place over the border ;).

Oh, never thought of that. Hope not. I read it on the NHS website and it didn't say for just women at 60.

Thanks to you all for your replies. :)

Otherwise it would be sexual discrimination

I got my bus pass at 61 but never use it. As I have a car, cycle and legs to walk it does not seem right to me.

However two people I know use theirs all the time. This probåbly explains why they are having to visit the doctors a lot because of lack of exercise.

Hi prescriptions and eye tests are the only thing we get at 60 everything else is linked to the state pension age. The optician asked me if I paid for eye tests.

Being pedantic, it's the State pension age for women, regardless of your actual sex.

So for example, men aged 63 (which is over the current state pension age for women) will qualify for a bus pass, even though they aren't actually eligible for a state pension themselves until they reach 65.
