MBNA sonycard not helpful

I am due to pay my sonycard on the 15th, however the pup has chewed the corner of it,meaning it cannot now be paid at the bank as the numbers on the payment slip are missing. yes he actually did eat the very bit that's important... I rang them to explain, using the 0800 number and just keep pressing # to bypass the menu - works a treat!

SHe said to me that if she sent out another duplicate bill, with a bank slip on the bottom, it would not arrive in time nor could she send another bank slip as I'd already had one, this necessitated me repeating why i was calling...

she said i could pay online using a debit card, i said it wasn't an option nor could I through my bank account - not an option either.

I realised this would incur a late fee as she said 'you'll just have to wait for the next bill to come for next month...'and get a late fee', i added. Yes she said.(can't find banging head onbrick wall smiley)

So I asked 'well in this situation can you waive the late fee,'? no she said! (I wondered if before they once waived for me as i was in hospital, and she now thought i was fibbing as i know it sounds like 'dog ate my homework' crap excuse - and talking of crap the cat actually did - on a pile of bills, this being one of them - i'd planned to still take it to the bank and say it was 'mud' - maybe its bad karma....:rotfl: maybe its fate it shouldn't be paid...without a fight...

Already just now I have applied for tesco (0% balance transfer fee card) to transfer it to that, and i said i would do that. she was not bothered.

so what should i do in this situation? can i claim the charges at a later date as in reclaim your bank charges?

should they normally have this inflexible manner?

Anyone had a similar situation?

1.MBNA launched payment over the automated service this week, you can use that, by selecting the option instead of the hash# all the time.
2.Highly unlikely you will be able to reclaim this latefee as it is within standard of the OFT £12.

oh !so when i read about being able to reclaim bank charges, this is actually not included? have I misunderstood and wrongly thought that this was able to be claimed back.?

so, then, the dog ate your bill. genuinely, so tough !!!!!!? is it? doesn't seem very acommodating of them? ok it sounds like a well used excuse but if its true, then its not very understanding of them. Can't you get late fee charges reclaimed then? i thought you could?

The OFT have said that £12 is a 'fair' charge so you 'may' not be entitled to get a refund.

and regarding internet payments they are DIFFERENT to using the automated TELEPHONE payment service which IS available now.

It sounds to me like an excuse (and a lame one at that), particular as you refused to pay by other (faster) means.
Now, who's got the inflexible manner???

Why can't you pay in a way that doesn't take an an additonal two weeks? That extra time was probably the thing you are after.

They do have other payment options! Why cant you use telephone banking? Send a cheque? Go into the bank and make a payment without the slip - all you need to give them is MBNA's Sortcode & Account number which is on the back of your statement

Indeed and you have internet access so why not pay online  or go into the bank and BACS a payment across? Not that hard surely?

And as I said you can now phone them and make an automated payment over the phone using a debit card (BEFORE the bill is due) and avoid the charges. :)

I think that seeing as the problem is of your own making (YOUR dog ate the bill) you need to do as they have suggested to do and pay by the other methods they have stated. They have given you a solution you have chosen to not use it.

You are being inflexible by not using another payment method

You say they had an inflexible manner? I'm curious to find out what answer would have been acceptable to you?
  • FYI, the automated payment will only let you make the mininum payment!
and also if there is not a dd set up! so as regards previous comment you cant make payment prior to your bill being sent out!
