Thank you for this. Up to press she's never thought she could go overdrawn with the other account. Now she has been upgraded without consultation and told she can go overdrawn. I'll have a look at it for her when she gets in. I assume that the overdraft facility is free but if she goes overdrawn there will be interest charges etc.
Let me know how you get on with the downgrade. We're having trouble getting it done. Couldn't do it on the telephone, was told to go into branch where it could be done instantly, but when went it they couldn't do it there. Currently awaiting Head Office to get back to us with a solution.0 -

Are you the one with the bad credit history then?0 -

No. Just trying to be financially savvy having been caught out in the past by being linked to someone else who had bad credit.0 -

My DD has just received one of these surprise upgrades today. She is still learning how to handle her money and did not want an overdraft facility. hopefully she"ll be able to downgrade it again.
Surely your DD would be a lot better in practising money management skills by having the funds there rather then taking this away.
IMHO throw people in the deep end and they either learn to swim or they don't.0 -
Surely as my DD has not even had her account for a year, if she feels more comfortable without the upgrade it's up to her.
I'll support her whatever she decides and she has decided it is in her best interests to get used to handling her money without being 'thrown in at the deep end'.
Keeping in mind that I and she both know how impulsive she is, I think she is making a sensible decision for this particular time in her life.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

DD went into branch and they told her everything is exactly the same but she can use her new card now to pay for transactions instead of just using cash point with it. Overdraft doesn't kick in unless she requests it. (so they say - roll eyes)
She went to a shop and used her new card only...does not work so it's a good job she had her old card with her isn't it. She's going back in tomorrow. :mad:GE 36 *MFD may 2043

I don't believe we ever signed a "credit agreement" as the account doesn't allow it to go overdrawn, be it "authorised" or "unauthorised", but I will need to carefully check through our paperwork at the weekend.
If the bank gets a request for an authorised payment they MUST process it, they can not decline it. If you have insufficient funds you go overdrawn (regardless of whether you have an overdraft or not).
They can decline withdrawals from ATMs due to lack of funds, and if a shop attempts an authorisation for an amount larger than the available funds, but if funds are authorised and then the money is spent elsewhere (eg. ATM, DD, etc), then authorised funds will be transferred from your account regardless, even if the account is closed (it will simply re-open with a debit balance).0 -
I actually have a Cashcard plus and I WANT it upgraded to the full Flex. Will they do this for me automatically?0
