I hope you have got the accommodation issue sorted out and that you go for it.....sounds great!

For those who posted some useful web addresses...thanks:D ......we have got it into our heads now that we want to move away....no idea where.....Denmark or one of the other Scandinavian countries are definately faves at the mo..........decided against Australia/New Zealand....too far....too many deadly things.....we wouldn't last a week!

Still, all this investigative work is rather exciting:D .....:p

I took my two young kids over to visit friends who had relocated for work when they were babies and todllers - it is baby heaven. They "only" had a 2 bed appartment but it was huge - you could have fit our whole house in it, and it easily accomodated 7 of us while we stayed. Everyone we met spoke excellent english, you could get english TV, transport system was set up for travelling with pushchairs and all the public places we went to provided free nappies and babychanging stuff, and made children very welcome.

I would agree with the suggestion of getting a cheap flight and going to check it out before you turn it down (including seeing the appartment in question). If it is a bit small, could you go on waiting list for a bigger one as soon as first person vacates one? If OH needs this to get on, its got to be seen as an investment in his career surely?

My stepdad come from Sweden, me, my sister and my mother went out there for 3 months when I was 12. I absolutely loved it, even though we were out in the middle of nowhere practically everyone spoke English, even the old lady in that worked in the little village shop spoke some english. The TV was almost all in English, except for a few programs like the news, and that was back in 86.

I believe that DFDS still do a ferry from Newcastle to Gotenburg, it's a bit of a long crossing and then it's I think a 3 hour drive to Stockholm from there.

My step dad introduced the mother of one of my friends to a Swedish friend of his, she is now living and working out there after they go married. She didn't find it too much of a problem not being about to speak Swedish, and even managed to find a job where she didn't need to.

The only down side, is it's very expensive. You definately won't be spendiing the night in the pub !!

If you want to know anything specific feel free to send me a PM, my step dad still has family out there, including 3 kids with kids of their own, so I can always ask him things for you.
