What I dont understand is c sector presence.

In the city centre they have 3sainsburys centrals,co-opsand least 4tesco expresses.

But these started popping up on subrurban high street we have sainsburys local and its expensive even more so than large co-op opposite.

The same problem with tesco expressed rarly go there as quite far fro my house, ore expensive.

When I worked for somerfeild we had 3stores along one vry long rd one was garage which was most expensive but other 2fairy big stores but 1priced higher than as other as classed as covieniance.

Surly a small morrsions be more expensive than the biggish store near me.

I would rather go local spar/ or booker premier than seek out c sector morriisions.

I think Morrisons along with Asda charge the same price across the whole estate. No matter how big or small the store is.

yes but neither have a true c sector style ie small square footage which allows them to open 7am-11pm.
Maybe asda petrol station attached to store but no stand alone small asda food stores they have non foods asda living.
My city has 2huge asdas, couple smaller asdas what use dto be normal sized supermarkets.

my 2nearest morrsions are fairly small compared to rivals whhich have gone big they used to be old safeway stores.

as neither have the diffrent formats its hard to tell what diffrences with be.

c sector will focuss mostly booze, staples, readmeals and processed foods hard to do decent prices weekly shop in them.
tesco dominate c sector sainsbury catching up, co-op as now aqquired somerfeild too but asda/morrisions done nothing.

Waitrose/m&s trying to open c sector at airports, services , train stations rather than on the high street.

I cant see where morrisions would fit i with this.
They just not a big enough brand name even though they expanded down south maybe they more popular up north.

Asda charge same price in their ex-Netto stores which are small but not true convenience stores.

Morrisons have 14 (I think) convenience stores currently and have bought ex HMV, Block Buster and Jessops shops to convert. Will have near 100 convenience stores by end of year.

Also convenience stores are not designed to do a full weekly shop. They are for topping up throughout the week.

Not being in the trade, all I can say as a mere customer is that Mrs B and I have recently abandoned Tesco and Sainsbury's in favour of Morrissons.

Yes, our local (Southern) Morrisons looks like something out of the 1970s, but it stocks easily the best quality meat of any of the mainstream supermarkets (Waitrose excepted), its range of other products is good and its prices are head and shoulders better than Sainsburys (who seem to be going for some sort of high-priced record these days) or Tesco, which reliably manages the impressive feat of being both hideously down-market and overpriced!

Ocado (at least locally) is OK. The quality of service is good but the range isn't as impressive as our local Waitrose and the prices are not comparable with Morrisons.

As a recent convert, if I could combine Ocado's service level with Morrison's prices I would be very happy.

I don't think they bought Kiddicare and a share of FreshDirect to gain knowledge in online shopping.

Morrisons were saying different two years ago - "What we learn from FreshDirect will be invaluable as we plan our own profitable e-commerce business for the UK." (Dalton Phillips, Morrisons CEO)

    http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/morrisons-readies-online-food-move/3024322.article

    Or this:

Morrisons will send a team of around a dozen employees from Bradford to Long Island City in Queens, New York, for the remainder of this year to scrutinize how FreshDirect works. Then, in 2013 Morrisons plans to launch its own food delivery website in London based on its findings.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/8374488/Morrisons-to-start-selling-food-online-from-Bradford-via-New-York.html

Quite what happened (went wrong) with the FreshDirect deal isn't clear.
  • Its about time Morrisons supermarket went online but 2014 bit late really,I like Morrisons, but they are slow on the up take in joining everyone else people need choice wether it be online or in the high street, having things online help those who are house bound,so much easier, but gives a choice to those who can and not get out.Come Morrisons get yourself in gear and join the rest its not that hard.

I love Morrisons but the fact it's not online lets it down.
