Interesting thread, my A/c isnt very cold at all and I was a bit scared to ask how much to sort it out after all we have spent on the car recently. Next job on the list but will probably ask at the usual garage first I think.

If you think about the Earth's temperature being closely correlated with the solar activity of the sun, you'll see the temperature rises started over 600 years ago, well before we started footprinting the earth with our inconsiderate oversized carbon feet

This CO2 footprint/offsetting is just a scam to make money for 'environmental charities' who are setting up by the droves...

Back on topic :o I have climate control and the air conditioning aspect I find invaluable, each to their own I suppose :D

yeh and 18-19% of the world's emissions are caused by cow's farting!

The global warming crap is like the recycling effort......its all propaganda to get us to 'accept' the governments new taxes.....as for recycling why dont they tackle the source...why bother if you can tax people more money

nb. i agree with recycling, it's just the way its implemented is what i DONT agree with

If all of you with Air Con follow the instructions that came with your vehicle, you shouldn't need the system recharging, vis, run the Air Con for a few minutes on a regular basis even in the middle of winter.

This will keep the system lubricated and avoid seals becoming dry, and thus leaking.

    ;)

yep......a few mins at least once a week....i have mine quite alot though

You need to disinfect your system every 18 months as bacteria builds up and can cause illness

I didn't know that... thanks

Agreed.....I fell upon an airline website (I refuse to mention them by name) who claim to partly offset their carbon footprint by supporting a US initiative to capture methane from disused mines and burn it becuase CO2 is a less powerful greenhouse gas

Had my air -con done by kwikfit on sunday. They seemed to know what they were doing although to be fair once two hoses are connected the machine takes over, drains the existing gas, introduces new oil and tests for leaks before refilling. Took about an hour, seems fine now. Ps my car is 3 1/2 years old and the aircon system was empty.

Not saying it isn't all true but....my car is over 4 years old now, had it since new, and the aircon still pumps out Ice colde air - no smell either. Perhaps I'm just lucky eh? (car is a Citroen Xsara Picasso)

    Top tip here.
If you measure your temperature in Kelvin (like scientists) then a 10% fall would require your aircon to take you from 20C down to about -9 :)

I don't know any Kelvins.....do you think a Bev would be ok?

Did they fix a leak? Otherwise won't it just empty out again? Mine did, took a couple fo months - this time getting the leak fixed too!!

Good question. I had mine done at a ford dealer (it mysteriously stopped working a day after the service) for £80, but 8 months later it's lost its cooling again despite running it every month as reccommended. I woulnt want to pay to get it topped up again only for it to stop working in less than a year.
