Uswitch and Cheap Energy Club Differing Results?

Hi All,

This may have been brought up before so please redirect me if it has.

I filled out my energy usage details on both Uswitch and CHC and they give me very different results. I have looked into them both but i can't work it out.

Uswitch is saying switch to Npower as it saves £100 annually (roughly) and CHC is telling me that Npower is the worst place to switch to and will cost me £40 a month more! I filled it out the same on both sites so I don't know what is up!

Any advice really appreciated, cheers all.

It's usually because of operator error.

What exact data did you input?

    1. Current supplier & tariff name
    2. Annual consumption in kWh
    3. Supply region (or first part of your postcode)

Only with this data can anyone investigate for you :)

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

    1) OVO Energy - Fixed (not eco) Elec. only.
    2) I input monthly spend @ £100
    3) Region S10 (Sheffield)

Uswitch: Npower Annual saving £66.10 'Energy Online August 2014'

Money Supermarket: Npower Annual saving £295.07 'Energy Online August 2014'

CEC: Npower Annual Cost £20 more 'Energy Online August 2014'

Can someone help me understand it all?!

    Thanks.
  • as an aside, inputting your current monthly DD amount into any switching site is next to useless to be entirely frank. If you don't want an inaccurate result it really is advisable to get the last 12 months actual consumption figures from your current supplier (they are legally obliged to give these, just give them a ring) and return to the switching site and input these figures.

... and whilst you are on the phone, check exactly what tariff you are on.

There are lots of fixed tariffs from Ovo depending on when you joined. Presumably you have chosen different ones (which would be indicated by different annual costs), because CEC and MSM should give identical results if you input the same data, as CEC uses MSM for comparison purposes.

If you ener your monthly spend, then the sites are forced to make assumptions about what your actual kWh consumption is, which is what the quote is dervied from-and different sites uses different models, producing different results.
Always enter kWh usage and you should get very similar results.

    Thanks for the comments all.

    I contacted OVO who told me the last tenants 12 month use in terms of cost and usage;

    £825 and 6576 kw

I stuck the new data (kw use for last 12 months) back into the forms and both find one company cheaper but they are different?

    uSwitch: Npower £31.94 cheaper
CEC: isupplyenergy £29 year cheaper (Npower £23 more a year)

I am still a bit confused.

I moved into my new flat 10days ago and OVO have moved me to a rolling tarrif so i need to sign up on a 12month contract with someone soon but i dont know who?

On a side note has anyone heard about 'the big energy switch' ? I guess it works like Groupon where you group buy to get cheaper energy.

Should i wait on my current rolling tariff to see the results of the auction? Auction is April 9th and Results are out April 19th?

Thanks so much for the comments.

On UKPower (the switching site I'm used to) I get this:

    http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy/compare/electricity/494KHJGA

OVO looks more than competitive to me!

PS Please be aware that the usage figure you got is not yours so could prove to be inaccurate itself! It's all about how you use the electricity compared to the last tenant I guess. But be aware that 6576 electric for an all-electric property is pretty low imo.

If you change the OVO tariff to fixed, UKPower notes Npower and Isupplyenergy as cheaper. Anyone to throw into the inconsistant mix!

They will because OVOs fixed deal is by definition pricier than its variable deal. Personally i don't think it's worth switching due to the fact the npower deal includes a £42 annual discount PAID IN ARREARS plus £30 of exit fees! Leave that tariff before your 12 months is up and you can effectively add £72 to the figure shown on the switching site! The other tariff is a fixed one so OK but it does have a £30 exit fee. And i know nothing about the company so couldn't recommend them or warn you off either...

I think I will wait until the Sheffield big energy switch to see what offer that includes. Otherwise I will stick with OVO.

Thanks for your help, really appreciated.
