Received a letter back from RBS in response to asking for loan details etc with a view to asking for PPI remuneration.
They have sent me a reply listing the loans over the last few years
and under their heading 'Insurance Premium (at outset of loan)' have listed NIL against each one.
SHOULD I BELIEVE THEM? or not.

I got the same sheet in reply to a subject access request, 5 loans-2 listed amounts, 3 nil's. So I did a PPI questionaire and included all the loan details as it was unclear from the sheet if there was PPI or what the end figures represented.
We got settlement offers on all 5 loans non of which seem to be any relation to the figures on that list, so we wondered if thats some kind of internal figure. We assumed the list is the loans with PPI and the second figure is perhaps some kind of internal note of what they earnt or indicated if the PPI was added to the loan rather than a separate monthly payment?
We also had 2 earlier loans they just said they had no details for so wouldn't even consider and they weren't on the list.
So I would say if you think you were miss sold bang in the questionaire. If there wasn't PPI they will, rightly, reject the claim. I have seen threads on other forums where banks have said no PPI, but then further info proves there was-mistake or deliberate lie? You can't tell.
I would imagine there is a phone number in the letter you got you could ring and double check? I think RBS let you start the complaint over the phone-or perhaps that is barclays lol, might be worth a call.
Good Luck

Hi
many thanks for the reply, where do i find a PPI questionaire0 -
They also auto-payout to avoid investigating depending on howmany complaints and people to deal with them there are, so you may have had an auto ayout even if you didn't pay PPI.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

I had the same from NatWest - a statement letter saying I did not have PPI on a loan 8 years ago (which I knew was incorrect).
I queried with them on the phone about their error, to which they stated they had no record of PPI on the loan, and it was up to me to provide evidence that I did.
I sent them certified copies of statements and PPI agreement documents, and they settled about 8weeks later.
Be careful with them on the phone - they started a claim without my consent, which obviously would have been rejected based on them claiming I had no PPI. Get all of your documents in order then start the claim.Legal team on standby0 -
I would believe them based on the fact that they are being proactive in contacting people who have had PPI on loans in the past. I received a letter to make a claim from RBS. On contacting them I asked about a previous loan. They informed me no PPI was taken with the other loan and I have no reason to think they weren't being honest. Since then I have now received an offer from RBS for the PPI loan.0

There's not actually any wrong doing here. They had no records going back 8 years so wouldn't have been aware you had PPI - you then provided this information and they investigated.
In regards to them starting a complaint - not claim - without your consent this is the right thing to do. You expressed dissatisfaction, FSA guidelines say a complaint should begin then, if that dissatisfaction cannot be resolved by the end of the next business day.
Getting documents in order then starting the complaint is the right advice, had you done so you would've avoided the toing and fro-ing about whether or not you had PPI.
I've never heard of auto payouts where the customer had no PPI before - where was that? I may have to drop in a cheeky complaint, If I can get over the hurdle of never having had a loan before I'll be quids in!My username refers to my enthusiasm for 'asking the stupid question' I don't think you're stupid!0 -
I have printed off the ppi questionnaire but it seems to be directed to the ombudsman. It that where it should go? asking this because to be honest we do not know if we ever had ppi on the loans or not and so can only supply basic details on the form, however we have got the loan reference numbers etc.
many thanks for any replies0 -

Step 3.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I had the same from NatWest - a statement letter saying I did not have PPI on a
loan 8 years ago (which I knew was incorrect).
I've just had something similar with RBS/Natwest.
I have had several documents delivered as part of my SAR (expired yesterday with lots of data missing from within the last 6 years). This data included loan information dating from 1990 through to 2004 (which was when I paid off the last loan I had with Natwest).
I know I had PPI on all 3. The information they sent back advises that PPI is on the later 2, not the first. I queried the first loan as the limited information I had indicated that it was.
The original loan information appears to indicate that my loan amount was for £2800, but querying with Natwest's PPI helpline indicates £3139 was drawn down. They forwarded me to the personal loans team at Natwest, and it appears that the only reason that this would show a higher amount is due to an additional insurance premium (the total amount payable was a separate higher figure). So, PPI was charged on the loan. I've managed to get them to locate the original agreement to confirm this, which they're sending a copy to me - quite impressive considering this is from 1990!
It appears from this thread (and some others) that RBS/Natwest may not have recorded older information about loans on their computer system correctly, indicating that loans that contained PPI were not recorded correctly. If you're in this boat and you feel that the information may not be correct, it's definately worth following up if the SAR creates more questions than it answers.Competition wins:
2010 - approx £450. 2011 - approx £800. 2012 - approx £300. 2013 - nothing so far!0
