Lufthansa

Having flown in from Singapore to a connection in Frankfurt to fly to Aberdeen the following happened.

We boarded on time but due to snow, the flight ended up being cancelled.

The biggest problem was, they kept us in the plane out on the tarmac for 5 hours before finally cancelling the flight.

I'm sure the excuse will be due to the snow, but several flights landed & took off after we disembarked from the plane.

We were about to push back when the runway was closed, therefore we should have been first in the Q for de-icing.
Is seems they chose to cancel our relatively small plane, & allowed the larger ones to leave.

When we got back to the terminal, there was no compensation, meal or hotel organised & we were largely ignored.

We had to spend a night on a bench in the airport & re book out tickets by machine.

Entitled to a claim?

you are entitled to reimbursement of hotel and meals (they will likely expect receipts) so if you did not stay in hotel there is nothing to be claimed
  • Hotel & meals only?

I thought the law stated they had to give a specific ammount based on flight duration / time delayed etc?

Not if extraordinary circumstances = weather in your situation.
  • I think that could be a grey area.

They chose to cancel the flight despite the runways being cleared.

Another plane which boarded an hour after we did took off as we disembarked again.

After the runway was opened, the pilot informed us that we were in a Que for de-icing. (We should have been first in line as they closed the runway at our take off time)

About an hour later (after they re-opened) they decided to cancel our flight.
