Can this cable be used to connect a PC computer tower to a computer monitor?

(just like all work computers have cables to connect the computer to the
monitor.
I am on about a basic philips monitor.
(as it says VGA, plasma screen etc etc)

First question is it actually a TV or a monitor?
Second question what model is it?
And third, does the laptop have a VGA connection? (most do, some don't).
Generally that sort of cable will work with most computer monitors as it is what was standard for something like 15-20 years, but some newer monitors don't use it at all, and some new laptops have dropped it in favour of HDMI (partly because it's a smaller connection, whilst being better).
One of the easiest ways to check is to look at the connections on both devices0 -

It is a monitor, it is an older monitor, philips make.
It is not a laptop, but a computer, a dell one.0 -

It sounds like it should do it then, as older monitors (even LCD's) usually had a VGA connection by default, but the easiest way to check is to look at the back of the PC and monitor
If it's a D shaped connection about an inch long with 3 rows of 5 pins it's VGA and that cable will work0
