The underwriter is the last resort it seems and if they aren't liable for all the other interest we paid I'd like to know who is!

99% of the time, the seller is liable. The issue is that with pre-regulation cases, there is no liability in many cases on pre-regulation.
Just wondering if the huge numbers of complaints against Debenhams were flagged up to the FCA whether they would take action on behalf of the consumer?

The FCA didnt regulate them at the time.

Hi TruthSleuth, new like you and wish I'd found it earlier as finding out so much about what can be reclaimed.
Like you didn't realise account cover on Debs and R&B storecards by GE Money was optional so going to follow your lead and ask for a refund.
    Fingers crossed for us both.
  • Go to Santander first then with your complaint because they will need to deal with it and either uphold you complaint or reject it first, then you can go to FOS if you need to. Seems I was given some wrong advice so have deleted previous posts so they can't mislead anyone. Good luck Lollo101.

I have been trying for months to reclaim PPI on my friends Debenhams Store Card. Several letters to Santander had drawn blanks, especially as the PPI was taken out in 1998.

What was strange-that other cards such as Laura Ashley and Dorothy Perkins had paid the PPI back almost on the first letter-these are too administered by Santander.

Eventually I wrote to the FOS-still not a favourable response, so eventually through trawling on here I wrote to Genworth ( I am doing this for a friend who would not be able to do the paperwork herself-so I pretend I am her!!)

Hey Presto! My friend arrived 2 weeks ago with a letter from Genworth stating they will pay her back nearly £1500, the amount of the PPI paid and interest.

We honestly can not believe it!!! Very very please for myself in getting a result, and for her having the much needed cash.

Please don't give up, if anyone needs the address of Genworth, the underwriter's of Debenhams PPI (not sure if they also apply to other Santander store cards?)

I would write, always best to have a paper trail!

Do Genworth underwrite all Debenhams cards? Mine was run through GE money. I went to Santander who rejected my claim? Should I go to FOS, GE money or Genworth. Any ideas?

:j Just received a letter from Genworth, re my PPI claim against Debenhams. Store card activated Dec 1997 and was closed June 2003. Santander refused twice to deal with me, nearly gave up, so glad i stuck with it, with the help of the financial ombudsman.I am waiting for my cheque! ... £1839.99 THRILLED TO BITS. Advice to everyone else keep going dont give up !:rotfl:

Was any cardrate interest included in your payout or was it just 8% simple interest?
