Help Pls *Item Misdescribed* - Refund Q's

HI

i purchased a phone of ebay and when i put my sim in the phone it was asking for a security code. Contacted seller and seller doesn't know the code and 'forgot' to mention this fact in the listing! Without the code the phone is rendered useless (unless i spend money to get code).

SO,

the seller has finally agreed to give me a refund BUT they want the phone back first (fair enough i suppose). However in light of the above i don't particularly trust the seller. So what's the best way of handling this return/refund. I paid thru paypal. Do i have to file a return with paypal or ebay first? what else can i do to ensure i get my money back and don't get left without a phone and out of pocket.

Many thanks for any advice

Can you not get the phone unlocked? Try the mobile phone thread here on this site http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=14

Might save you the hassle of sending phone back and getting a refund

Are you sure the "security code" is not the default one in the handbook?

It might be set to trip in when sims are swapped, If the owner had never swapped a sim in it, it might not have asked for the code.

Thanks Stavros. tried those two but no joy. It's a 3300 and apparently the default code for these is 12345 and .....that doesn't work.

Could you give nokia/the network a call and ask how you reset the phone because you forgot the code? Then I presume you could enter 12345 ...

If you enter the code incorrectly a number of times (can't remember the exact figure), it will lock you out entirely and will only unlock by inputting a PUK code. However your network provider should be able to provide you with the PUK code.

thats what i thought, but if you bought a second hand phone what mobile phone provider do you call??? surely it would be linked to the orig network provider? i dunno just thinking aloud.
