Say my partner opens an ISA account this year and I open a separate account.
Next year, can we open a new ISA account, then merge the other two into it?

No. Not without withdrawing the money and using up the next tax years subscription allowance.0 -
The clue is in the title Individual Savings Account - no joint accounts are allowed.Old dog but always delighted to learn new tricks!0

If you open an ISA this year, this can be transferred into next year's ISA - providing that the next year's ISA allows transfers in (some ISA products don't allow this - you'll need to check the T&Cs).
The rule for your partner is the same. He/she can open an ISA this year and transfer it into next year's ISA providing she's allowed under the T&Cs of the product.
You're not allowed to merge each other's ISAs as they're individual savings accounts. There's no such thing as a Joint Savings Account (though you may have seen the term JISA banded about, which stands for Junior Individual Savings Account - available to under-18s).Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
