How Best to Buy Fidelity China Special Situations PLC for an ISA

Hi

I am keen to understand the best way to try and add this as part of my ISA for next year.

I am looking to invest a lump sum of £1k followed by monthly top ups of £250.

I would also be keen to add maybe another couple of funds, possibly trackers, at similar levels to take me up to my ISA limit.

I am keen to minimise any costs that I can plus I don't plan to chop and change the funds.

Any advice would be most welcome?

Thanks

Paul

  • There's a site called Monevator that has a comparison of the cheapest brokers, which is quite good. I'd post a link but can't as a newb, but Google it and you should find. Fidelity offer their own ISA for investment trusts but not sure of the details on that.

I use TDDirect which charges £12.50 for standard trades in IT's, and £1.50 for monthly investing in them. The ISA wrap is free if you have a regular investment facility set up (or balance over £5100). They are also quite good on trackers as you can invest in clean funds (like Vanguard) for 0.35% a year, which is likely to be cheaper than a flat rate for smaller balances.

It would be worth checking Fidelity. Their IT savings scheme is one of the cheapest so their ISA version may be equally good.

Depending on your tax circumstances you may want to check their savings scheme as the ISA may only offer you marginal benefits.

Been a dog of a performer, it's only slowly getting back to the price I bought it at 3 years ago.

Yes I am aware of the difficulties he has run into.

I am hoping that he will have learned from his time there and that the performance will improve going forward.

    Are you sticking with it?

I'm sticking with it. Fortunately I did buy a big chunk at under 80p so currently sitting on a profit but long term I think it will still do well.

Hi - no ISA currently - I did have a Stocks & Shares one a few years back with HSBC - had it for a few years and it made a reasonable return. Probably paid well over the odds in fees though in hindsight!

I needed to sell it in order to help me relocate.

No debts again now so looking to get back involved!

Hopefully being a little older and wiser (apparently) I will cut down on any unnecessary fees this time!

Yes, I'll stick with it for a few more years (I hope) but haven't added to my original purchase.

People keep recommending you hold your nerve and buy in a slump, but this looks like a three year slump!
