Instead of doing you for a bald tyre, potentially 3 points plus fine, they've given you a warning and told you to get it fixed and prove it was fixed. Get it done now (it's needed anyway), get the ticket stamped and send it back. Problem solved.

    Dont delay, Do it today.

Unless you prefer to keep driving on the illegal tyre and pay a fine and 3 points instead?

Sounds like its illegal but not totally dangerous.

As colino says, nothing to worry about except the cost of the tyre, which you need anyway, and the fee for stamping the form, which is up to the individual MOT station you go to - not all will stamp these forms but most do.

It's sensible policing for a change - you get stopped by a real person who uses discretion to give you a chance to get the potentially dangerous fault fixed rather than issuing an FPN. Also gives you a chance to learn your mistake (hopefully) without developing resentment towards the polizei for basically doing their job.

    Win-win really :)

Yes.....take legal action against them immediately. You will probably be able to retire from the proceeds of this action, and never have to work again.

The nasty policeman should not have hurt your feelings, and this is a crime that you can benefit from financially.

If you think the officers were rude, go to your local police station and make a complaint. That's your recourse for that.

As for the ticket, it's a Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme (VDRS) notice - basically letting you off 3 points and a £60 fine. Get a new tyre, take the car to an MOT centre to have it checked - you don't need a new MOTand don't let the MOT centre staff tell you that you do. They will stamp the form and you send it back to the address shown on it - within 14 days, so do it asap.

If you continue to drive on it and get stopped again, it will flag up you've had the VDRS and you will get the 3 points and £60 fine.

You forgot to mention saved him from getting points on his license and also potentially his life by spotting an unsafe tyre when we have very poor road condititions at the moment.

Remind me not to pass you the salt OP. I wouldn't like to be served with a writ for doing you a favour!
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
