Canceling a TT contract - advice please

Hi,

Please can you help.

I have had a phone & broadband package with Talktalk for the last 2 months and it has been a nightmare!

Is it possible to cancel my 12 month contract on grounds that they have not provided the service I am paying for.

In just 2 months with them I have had to have 2 engineer visits (one of which I was charged £50 for!), countless calls to they're terrible tech support line because we've lost connections. The last engineer visit gave the connection the all clear, that was less than one week ago and last night yet again I had no connection. The problem was still not resolved this morning when I left for work.

I'm completely fed up with talktalk now shoddy service and want out of my contract.

Can I get out on grounds that they have not fulfilled the terms of our contract and I am paying for a service I have not received?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

:)

Talk Talk would need to agree to release you from your contract. Don't go cancelling direct debits!

    No chance of that then
  • Thanks but why should I not cancel my direct debt?

Because they will then trash your credit record.
9 time out of 10 connection issues are down to the user (wi-fi channel problems, bad internal wiring, etc). You have to give TT the chance to remedy the fault. If you explain exactly what the issue is and what tests you have run yourself then you will get some meaningful advice.
If you actually have a line fault on the local loop, then switching ISP's will make no difference anyway.
TT are cheap for a reason-they can offer no serious technical support when things go wrong.

  • Really!

    Thanks, good advice.

I dont really know what to do now then because the engineer said the connection was fine yet we keep having problems.

How would you go about getting out of your contract?

What have you done so far to eliminate a problem with your own wiring?

No offence, but you can't just "get out" of your contract. Like I said you need to liaise with TT to either get it fixed or get them to agree to release you from said contract.

If you cancel your direct debit they'll pass the debt onto debt collectors who will hound you, default your credit file and possibly take you to court and you'll end up with a CCJ. Defaults/CCJ's will destroy your credit file for 6 years!
  • No offence taken, I appreciate the advice.
