Kingston Communications Customers living in Hull

I understand why they can't force the likes of OneTel and I do agree with you its totally unfair to force anyone to provide something they don't want to - with the exception of the likes of BT as they do have SMP. I also understand that from the likes of OneTel's, etc point-of-view it may not be financially viable for them to open their network to the likes of Kingston customers in Hull.
The point I was trying to make was its unfair that Kingston customers cant really take advantage of the choice that BT customers can even though Kingston Communications can't (well shouldn't) block access to these other providers.
It would just be great if Kingston & the cable companies opened their network to the cheaper rates/offers that OneTel, TalkTalk and more importingly Call18866/1899 do.
On a slightly different subject, can people who are based in Hull and use Kingston still use BT if they wish. If so, is there a reason why people don't like for instance a lot cheaper line rental or something that Kingston do? (I have looked at Kingston site but it didn't seem to forthcoming on the line rental and other charges)

From what I can see, the cable companies have enough difficulties staying in business when they're reasonably assured of the call revenues, without jeopardising them by opening access to 18866 et al...
In principle, for everything regards regulation that applies to BT, the same thing applies to Kingston within the area of their "franchise". This means that in principle BT could move into Hull, and operate on their turf in much the same way that OneTel does on BT's. It isn't an area of the market where I have much knowledge, though, so I couldn't tell you if they actually have.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
I agree cable companies are suffering. I believe if they could lower their costs, etc they would. I've heard rumours that NTL & Telewest are thinking of joining forces. I don't know if that means one buying the other out or not!bunking_off wrote:From what I can see, the cable companies have enough difficulties staying in business when they're reasonably assured of the call revenues, without jeopardising them by opening access to 18866 et al...

We were on cable and did feel a bit awful when we moved to BT but with BT and using OneTel's free evening/weekend calls, I estimate a saving of around £14 per month. That's a lot of money especially over a year!0
